I first heard of this story when I attended a talk by Daniel Dennett, the author of "Consciousness Explained" and "Darwin’s Dangerous Idea: Evolution and the Meanings of Life."

I just went back to edit that post with the correct url, but it came out wrong again.

Somehow the mechanism that converts the post to display a URL doesn't like part of the address.

When I put it in with the http:// it comes out incorrect as you saw:

WRONG: jubal.westnet.com/hyperdisco...y_of_babel.html

When I put it in without the http:// it works correctly:

RIGHT: jubal.westnet.com/hyperdiscordia/li...y_of_babel.html

So use the second address ("RIGHT") and add the http:// yourself

 

James' link works. I just wasn't sure how to fill in the blanks. I'll check it out

I think I see now what I did wrong in the initial post: I copied the link from another forum and apparently that just copied the truncated URL that was "visible" in that forum. I'm still a bit confused, but I've now updated my original post here and inserted the URL copied directly from the library of babel website.
