Martian bugs Vs Terraforming. (http://www.spacedaily.com/news/mars-life-03e.html)

Recent evidence of vast amounts of water ice on Mars supports the possibility of indigenous life. At the same time, that water could enable human settlement and massive environmental engineering, or terraforming. A moral conflict could face us soon, pitting Terrestrial life against the Martian. The course of action we choose should be informed by broad debate: the ethics, as much as the biology, of Mars deserves full exploration.

Which way would you vote?

1) We must above all else protect the microbes if they exist.

2) Undecided, let's flip a coin.

3) Just terraform the planet, put some bugs in a jar.

I say evict the pondscum and build a few resort hotels!

I say study them if they are there without causing population damage and then decide what to do. there is no rush. hopefully there would be compatability.

There probably some bacterial life frozen in the ice and/or deep underground on Mars. Terrforming the surface will most likely free this life from is slumber, chances are it won't be infectious and with little luck and controlled ecology it can be a win-win situation for humans and Martian critters.
