Absolutely insane. October 12, 2008; 4:03 pm PST.

Okay, KEXP, a local independent radio station just finished playing "Something About Today" by Screaming Trees. Personally, I have never in the seventeen years since Uncle Anesthesia was released, heard this song on the radio. Indeed, it probably got some play on KCMU (the former incarnation of KEXP) and KGRG, another local independent station, but ... I've never heard the song on the radio.

Then they followed that up with Martha & The Muffins, "Echo Beach", a 1980 single that I only ever once heard on the radio ... nineteen years ago.

Sorry, I just had to record the moment. Absolutely astounding. Jaw-dropping.

    Hallowe'en music

    Happy Hallowe'en, everyone.

KEXP is on a tear at the moment with its morning show. I caught the news while driving my daughter to school, but couldn't stand Weekday's "Halloween Party", so I flipped over to our world-famous independent station and the playlist over the last twenty or so minute:

    • The Kills, (unknown song, I only caught the last few notes; I'll have to go back and listen to the album for the first time in a couple months)
    • Queens of the Stone Age, "Burn the Witch"
    • Concrete Blonde, "Bloodletting (The Vampire Song)"
    • King Missile, "The Evil Children"
    • L7, "Pretend We're Dead"

It's a celebration of the macabre. Even the prissy, fake goth-pop song playing right now, "Halloween" by Dream Syndicate, does the job. Every day should see radio programming this good.
