Wanna bet? it all depends on wheter or not they have the chutzpah to use it quickly.

As for killing people with knives, it's no where near as easy as it seems. Recall that in murder cases in which the employed weapon was a knife or other sharp-edged implement (ice picks and such), the victim always suffered an extremely high number of wounds (40 stab wounds or some such number). I doubt that one of these wounds could have killed the victim.

have you ever hand anyone hold knife to you? there really isn't a whoel lot you can do. I have had in a couple of occasions. One or more individuals confronting me with knifes. It is a very chilly experience. Even with my fighting skills, etc. The images of those situations were life and death is looking straight into your eyes, are images engraved in the mind for ever.

There’s a lot that can be done, it all depends on how many individuals, and their purpose. The very worst are those that don’t want to steal, but instead from a brain disorder simply want to punch holes in you, their physical mental condition makes them almost invulnerable to pain.

What can me done? Depending in the level of surprise, here are some tips:

1. Run as straight as you can towards public places or lighten areas.
2. Scan quickly your surroundings and get a hold of sticks, garbage cans, etc
3. If there are stones around, (very effective), stone the sonofabitch .

But keeping awareness at all times and avoiding unsafe situations is your best bet.

I used to carry knives. Incidentally, I've found less reason to use them now that I don't carry them. I had a real cool knife, too, a tonto by Cold Steel that could be driven through a car door if necessary. My best friend carried a SOG Pentagon (a great knife, perhaps my personal favorite) that was demonstrated to be capable of splitting a lead-jacket .45 round with only minor scoring on the blade. (They put the knife in some kind of vise-grip and fired the round at point-blank; it's an amazing demonstration to watch, but I don't know how important it is.)

Anyway ... on to the real subject.

I was walking through a mall in Springfield, Oregon, one day, and the police were all over the place on one of their PR days, with vehicles, weapons, and body armor on display for children to play with. (I don't know, but they let children handle the guns.)

I stopped and inquired with an officer about weapons permits; you can get a permit to carry a gun concealed in Oregon, but you cannot get a permit to carry a knife. I was curious as to why. The officer informed me--and I've come to understand the perspective somewhat--that his department considers knives more dangerous than guns.

It seemed a little odd at first, but it struck me that to a police officer, this is true. A guy with a gun shows it early, as the thing is designed to kill at range. A guy with a knife shows it late. The nearest I came to mortal combat I once told a person: "Go ahead and point that damn gun at me. And you better hit me when you fire. Because if you miss, I will hit you."

A .380 at ten feet? He didn't feel like pointing the gun at anyone when he realized that a minimum of two knives would be lodged in his body (I was well-covered at the moment). Three if he missed. As a side note, a couple of our associates later wished they had been there; they carried guns and wished they could have "put a cap in his ass". I always found it ironic that they didn't know the law well enough; a bunch of people with weapons standing around and threatening each other before attacking--in Oregon, everyone gets arrested when that happens.

The cops in Oregon don't like knives. They don't see them coming, and knives rarely miss their targets.

But they had to stab Caesar 15 times before he up and died, so it's no surprise this Chinese assailant didn't kill more.

And no, the story really isn't that melodramatic. Nearly. But not really.

thanx,
Tiassa

much out of the question. A dog is not a bad idea, however it isn’t too difficult to
give a steak to the dog, or closing him in a closet. A stab in the dog’s throat will
render him ineffective.

In-doors, the kitchen it’s a total arsenal of its own. Freypans, gadgets, toasters, sticks,
bottle of oil, hot water, chili sauce. In the living room and bedroom, cushions, pillows
to protect yourself, small heavy objects, “TV-Remote”. In the bathroom, partum or mouthwash to sprinkle opponents eyes, and the options are just limited by your imagination to improvise under danger.

Also, in an indoor situation talking to your assailant will keep his mind busy, most men “unlike women” can not do two things at the same time if one of them involves thinking. Think of interesting puzzle questions or unexpected questions, including the tip that when this is over he will most probably be a candidate for the electrocution chamber, etc..

And NightFall, ....you could never give me a hard time, in this subject.
