I've seen alot of threds on who is the greatest band/drummer/guitarist/etc..

Here's the question:
If you could form a band with members chosen from every musician, living or dead, from the last one hundred years, who would be in your band?

I guess we shuld probably put a limit on the number of people in your band, so let's say no more than 10 people. How well do think your band would get along together? Why did you choose the members you did?

Here's mine:

Guitars; SRV and Esteban- Two damn talented guitarists that would probably not work well together, but if they did...

Bass; Les Claypool- Seriously, is there one greater? Plus, the guy comes close to mastering instruments in like 3 months.

Drums; John Bonhan- I'm a Led Zep fan, and its been said by many that this man's drumming was time perfect.

Harmonica; John Popper- Yeah, its a harmonica, but Popper is still phenominal.

Piano/Keyboards; Fiona Apple and Tori Amos- Musically, perhaps not the best choices, but the girls are damn good and my band is definitely lacking in the fairer of the two sexes.

Vocals; Robert Plant and Maynard Keenan- Ok, so that's two guys from Zep now. Can you blame me? The guy was amazing! As for Maynard, have you ever heard him? If not, go do so now! Tool, Perfect Circle, various other projects. The guy has a voice that can go from hauntingly sinister to just open, powerful rage.

Yeah, so my band probably would have some slight issues to say the least. If they could keep it together though..WOW... It would either suck, or be some of the greatest music man kind has ever made.

So what are your choices?

Bass: Chris Wood from Medeski, Martin and Wood on the stand-up bass and occasionally on electric. Then John Paul Jones on bass and the various other instruments he can play.

Drums: Keith Moon, Billy Martin.

Keyboards: John Medeski

Guitar: Trey Anastasio, Jimmy Paige

Vocals: Trey Anastasio.

I think this would more or less make the ultimate jam band. Having two drummers can be amazing, as long as both respect each other. Anastasio and Paige are two very different types of guitarists, but Anastasio has proven he can do blues (see Jesus Just Left Chicago), and Paige has proved he can do regular rock and roll (oh god, see every Zeppelin album). More importantly, though, Paige has proven he can jam. Watch the Zeppelin DVD's that came out recently (or listen to How The West Was Won), and you can easily see the man improve brilliantly. And besides MMW, Anastasio is the king of improvised music. Add the ridiculous abilities of the drummers and guitarists to John Medeski's keyboards and you have ludicrous amounts of talent. Medeski and Anastasio have had fun before (Phish and MMW have occasionally played together, and it's amazing), and something tells me Paige would have loved to funk out psychadelia-jazz style. His dream with Zeppelin was the ultimate blues-psychadelia band, and I find it hard to believe he wouldn't love a little funk in there. As for the bass, well, Chris Wood is the greatest jazz bassist I've ever heard, without possibiltiy of exception. And John Paul Jones is one of the best rock bassists, and probably the best all-round musician at that position in a rock band.

There's my super band.

I don't know. Musical ability is one thing (and it is what should be the most important) but to consider that a band must spend a lot of time together, then personality should come into it, and it also contributes to the bands' vibe and playing too. My selection is on musical ability alone:

Drums- Alan White from Oasis (Professionally trained, but he's good!)

Bass guitar- Anyone will do :D (It wouldn't be used on all songs)

Organ/Piano (not keyboards)- The woman who played the piano for Oasis when they played Maine Road in 1996, which is on the 'There and Then' video (I don't know if she can play the organ though, but she's more than capable on the piano)

Guitar (Rhythm & lead)- The lead guitarist from Teenage Fanclub!

Harmonica- Bob Dylan (or Mark Feltham, played for Oasis)

Singer- Madonna, but in here early days (and it would be of the calibre of when sung 'Papa Don't preach' and 'Like a prayer'!)

Songwriter- Probably Bob again, or someone else

Saxophone (for any songs it is needed)- Whoever played on the Beach Boys' version of California Dreaming!!

My band? Basic components of it would consist of:

Percussion -- Native American drummers who do the war dance on the tom tom
Percussion/Strings/Winds -- the very best from the ancient Druid folk
Wind/Drum solo duets (everything else OFF! the two in a duet in all their glory) -- the very best flutist from the Cro Magnons, and the very best from 10th century South Asian drummers
Chorus/Vocals -- a group of the very best singers of the Medieval era
Bass -- Give Beethoven one and a couple months to find out what it's like ... yeah BABY look at Beety r0x0r

Now THAT'S my idea of a real band.
