In February 2001, the Sun did a magnetic polar shift. The next one is due again in 2012. NASA scientists who monitor the Sun say that our star's awesome magnetic field flipped 22 months ago, signaling the arrival of a solar maximum.

Hum,
will it be "obvious to the average human"?

Only if some of them head directly toward us. Then it can possibly knock out comm satellites and cause power blackouts. That would be pretty obvious, I believe, for those affected. :D

Tnx,
i must have been doing something else the last time it happened.

but i`ve got it written into my diary, so i`ll look out for it...

when i said i hope it doesnt go like the last time it did that i didn't mean the last time the poles reversed i meant the last time this was brought up in this thread

It will result in the end of the world, the Mayans knew all along. Well, at least according to Art Bell. :p

I think it was sarcasm. However, what about the bible code thingy? that says the apocalypse is due this year. However, it is bunk, and furthermore a pole shift is not a global calamity.

what about y2k it was due then too

What?? You think a pole reversal was due then? What gave you that idea?

And just to clear up another misunderstand you seem to have, this thread is about a pole reversal of the sun. The thread that had all that convoluted nonsense in it (mostly posted by Rabon) was about a pole reversal of the Earth. Completely different topics.

you make to many assumptions light truelly you do i was just saying apocolypse's this year are as silly as y2k

Yes, it's a cycle that completes every 11 years. Be on the lookout for some nice flares (hopefully NOT headed our way though). I always love getting interesting data from SOHO. :)

Well, then, state what you're talking about - not just some comment out of nowhere that you haven't refrenced to anything. Do you know how to use the quote feature to do that? It makes it much easier for people to understand you.

And that last part of what I said was in response to this that you said,

"lol i truelly hope this doesn't go like the last one did about the poles reversing"

ehh well somtimes im kinda lazy and from my memory i thought the last one was about the suns reversal i can see now that it wasn't. Either way my mistake, from now i on i will make sure it is clear on the referance.

Just to clear things up, yes my post was sarcasm. So many people are convinced since the Mayans ended their calender in 2012 that means the world is going to come to an end. Oh noes!!!!11

This is old news, isn't it? Although the article in the page that you offer has date as of 2005, the original news appeared in 2001. See
http://science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2001/ast15feb_1.htm

So, if you read that the magnetic field flipped 22 months ago, it doesn't mean that flipped in 2003. Indeed it flipped during the 2000-2001 period, and will reverse again in 2012, because it traces the 11-year sunspot cycle
