I use mainly Mac computers. Although I have PC's in my home too, I prefer the Mac because it is almost hell to try to do anything technical with the windows. On the Mac it is plug and play. I would go off listing stuff why I prefer the Mac but instead I will just say why the Mac has a downfall. Mac's have less software. No, not games, word processors, etc. Trust me, 90% of games etc. that are actually good sellers are on Mac too. It's the small little programs, like a tiny program that modifies another program. Or TOProtect for Tactical Ops.

Frankly, both Macs and PC's have their strengths but I think that the best computer either for gaming, web design, graphics and general usability would have to be the Comodore 64.

Yes strength and weakness for both the Mac and PC, it depends on what you want to do with it.

If you wanna' dink around and think that you know what the hell you are doing on a computer, then go ahead and get yourself a mac, but when you are ready tu realize the full potential of your home PC get yourself Windows. . . hmmm maybe Linux to, yeah. . . get a dual boot system. Anyway, just don't fall for that limited proprietary crap. Never trust a computer that is marketed based on the color of it's case.

You probably aren't the expert on Macs, because you don't own one, but there are no Macs in production that have colored cases. iMacs with colored cases are about 3-5 years old.

Dearprudence: You've got a dual proc. 64-bit mac? How much did THAT cost you?

How much do graphic artists that work on macs make annually? I didn't realize that they were getting payed enough to buy a BMW and first class seats on an airline. I always invisioned 100 different animators working in a sweatshop environment on different parts of one movie scene then putting it all together.

As a future worker in the IT industry would it be all that profitable for me to learn any language that the Mac uses (I havn't looked too far into it, do they use C...or what?)? or should I stick to the PC?

Graphicless? I would love to see you play the graphic demand games I play on a mac. I’ll agree the Mac is like the BMW of computes it fine craftsmanship and luxury, but its not a street race car of a computer nor is it utilitarian like a SUV, truck or PC. also don't assume we are all monoplosoft zombies here, I duel boot with a borrow copy of WinXP pro and RedHat Linux (also borrowed sorry Linux community).

    testify,

Also I think the G4 are 128bit instruction set not 64bit. But these instructions set don’t really help out side of operation that don’t use floating point. On average one can say that a Macs processor with it larger instruction set, smaller pipeline and more efficient design in general does about 1.5 its performance in the laymen’s standard of clock cycles, so a Powermac G4 1Ghz is roughly comparable to a 1.5Ghz P4 or Athlon Xp 1500+.

He was talking about the 64 Bit G5 processors, not the 32 bit G4 with velocity engine.

A dual 2 ghz G5 is considerably faster than a dual 3 ghz Xeon.

    http://www.apple.com/g5processor/

I wonder how many people have tried Apple's computers since OS X and the G4 and can really say a Windows machine is a better workstation or home computer... I mean it does everything Windows could, and everything Windows can't. With Virtual PC there is no need to ever use a real PC again.

I do think PCs serve their purpose however, when it comes to automated processing. Web/mail servers and what not... since there is no need for much human interaction... which to me is the downfall of Windows.

    Just my humble opinion.

There has been testing that show the G5 is not as great as it claimed to be but nothing conclusive, I would wait tell more 3rd party testing proves or disprove G5 superiority to P4 and A64, before claiming a victor.

Oh I have tried OS X and it rocks! But price is still my #1 problem. I love Athlon and the most power for my buck rather then the best there is, why should I care if I can't buy it? When it comes down to it just about any computer can do basic desktop apps. well and quickly, the difference between a low end P3 and high end P4 system in office apps productivity is 7% and the upgrade cost twice as much. Most of the power of a high-end system is useless unless you’re gaming, encoding or serving.

Um, except this *was CLEARLY* 3rd party testing presented.

I'll wait tell I can see many test result from many different people, NASA’s testing was limited to a very specific area and range of performance.

What are you talking about by the way? chazdecker.

Apple sponsored? And this is what is amazing to me... Maybe you should visit their site before uninformed/misinformed posting.

    chazdecker,

Anyone can be bribed; there still the issue of the ill compiler comparisons and hyperthreading being turned off which means someone was playing favors for apple. the best compiler for the processor should have been used not some generic intercomparable one and hyperthreading does not I repeat does not reduce performance I have seen many benchmarks comparing hyperthreaded p4 with non-hyperthreaded p4 that beg the differ, it only provides a advatage in multitasking which many compilers can make a program do.
