Why don't we hear more about virus alerts for Macintosh computers?

Is it harder to write a virus for a Mac, or does the market share of Windows-based computers make Mac virus alerts take a back seat?

I would guess it's due to the market price of mac machines being higher than that of an average PC and the shear fact that there are alot of young people out there that either loove Bill Gates because of his money or his corporate entity.

In fact in the late 1990's there seemed to be a movement of hackers and other cybervandals to attack the corporate engines.
