Dr. Amy Bishop, 40, the biology professor/geneticist who opened fire on fellow doctors/staff in AL, invented a Mobile Cell Incubation System touted as a replacement for the old-fashioned petri dish. She was refused tenure yesterday and then shot up fellow professors/doctors killing 3 and wounding 3 during a biology faculty meeting. Her invention was supposed to "change the way biological and medical research is conducted." http://topics.al.com/tag/UAH shooting/index.html
Who says all biologists are nasty liberal atheists? Here's one at least behaving like a good christian conservative and killing a whole bunch of folks who stood in the way of her getting what she wanted George Bush would be proud
what does the shooting have to do with religion? :bugeye: Or Bush for that matter? I'm surprised because it was a woman. Most disgruntled employee shootings are male.
I have not heard of an American chick doc/prof ever shooting up a room full of people before. This chick was a head case. The more I read about her the more I think she snapped and then pre-meditated the deaths of her co-workers. She looks like a plain, frumpy liberal. She should fry. http://images.google.com/imgres?img...soft:en-us:IE-SearchBox&rlz=1I7ACAW&sa=N&um=1
There's something I do not understand. Every year professors are chosen to be put on tenure so why didn't she just wait until next year to have another try at it. It seems there's more here than just the tenure as to why she killed those people.
Killing a whole bunch of people is ok if God tells you to do it ( http://www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice/pressreleases/stories/2005/10_october/06/bush.shtml ) she should plead the god defence and get off
Usually when they refuse tenure, they expect you to leave within a year. Science is still very much an ole boys club, she was probably very frustrated by many setbacks.
maybe she was denied tenure because they were seeing oddities about her. Oddities that caused her to shoot people. You can't fire people for being odd, but you can deny them tenure.
Just pointing out that one insane person can come up with a completely bonkers reason for killing people and get away with it. Another insane person does it and they somehow deserve different treatment
Oddities in a biology department; I think thats a requirement. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
This seems like the most astute assessment of motive. It's stupid to superficially call her outright crazy without taking this into consideration. The only thing I'd question is whether her not her gender was actually associated with her not being given tenure unless there is an article somewhere that states this as a hard fact. It's certainly believable since there are past examples (IE - the scandals during Madame Currie's career were pretty unfair).
|| Hi Patel, I see what you're saying but there is nothing in the OP that says she was an atheist or a theist. Sandy also isn't suggesting that this has anything to do with either. Unless you have information about this case that was not presented in the OP.. Please stay on topic.
I was going to say oddities in science, period. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! I also think the second person being questioned is her husband. I'm sure cops want to know what/if anything he knew about her and her plans. It's just a strange thing for a woman to do that. Most shooters like that are disgruntled men.
its probably because of the damage done. if you are repeatedly denied tenure it can basically destroy any attempts at getting a job as a professor as would being repeatedly fired fro mother jobs would hurt your chances at getting jobs in that field.
I'm thinking there is much more to it. Just being denied tenure once should not set her off even if she had this great invention. I'm thinking there is a deep-seated character flaw other than her desire to shoot people. This chick was really fcked up. The cause and just how much, we may never know.
