Does love not exist as we perceive it. Do humans feel love so as to be attracted to women so we have the desire for sexual relations to carry on our genes?

Is love just a chemical reaction. I'm only a 9th grader so i Kno nothing of psycholgy. Someone please elaborate.

love is a biochemical process, there is no higher state of love, love occurs when specific chemical bind to the receptors of the molecule in the body, if these chemicals are right then humans feel the feeling of love, for everyone this is different. Furthermore sexuality, arousal, can be achieved by many conditions, mostly pheromones and images of the desire. If you are attracted to a woman, that means your body desires the woman because she emits specific pheromones you are attracted to, the woman image pleases you or calms you, and you feel tense, all of these is juct biochemistry, there is no higher state of mind or anything of that sort.

    if i say to myself,

im going to make my wife happy today and supprise her with something, just because i want her to smile and be happy,

can this be explained with chemicals,

    peace.

Lets analyze that... You want to make your wife happy because you want to see her happy because seeing her happy makes you happy. Thus you are giving yourself pleasure by making your wife happy. You are giving yourself pleasure by staying at peace with yourself, which is achieved by specific chemicals that make you feel better.

no, i didnt say i would see her atall,

i just want to know she is happy just for the sake of her bieng happy,

even if i never see her again for the next 10 years, i hope she was happy everyday, just because i want her to be because she likes it.

i pray to myself everyday, inside my own head without telling anybody, just praying they will be happy, and have a good day, i have no motive, apart from happyness to people, inclusing yourself, i wish happyness for you aswell.

    peace.

Lets analyze that...even though you say you want to know she is happy for the sake of her being happy, it makes you happy when she is happy, you are happy inside...you might not show feelings...however inside your are getting pleasure out of this situation because you have made a biological contract with your wife where you *depend* on each other...thus you are getting pleasure out of your wife pleasure...and this all comes down to biochemical reactions...

Now you are relying on the power of good here, the actions that humans do to please other humans, good deeds give pleasure to humans uncosciously and consciously, the deeds are rewarded by chemicals that induce happiness, in others they induce peace and tranquility.

i wish for everything with the emotion of happyness, to be happy,

i dont feel good about it, i think i am a bad person. i actually feel sad when i wish happyness for everybody, because i think about the reality and how everything isnt like that, everytime i think about that i realise how selfish i am etc.

so i wouldent say i gain happyness from any of this, i do get happy seeing my wife and others bieng happy, ofcourse who wouldent, i love seeing her happy.

but when thinking about it alone i do not feel the same way the cmplete opposite actuallyt.

and i begin thinking about this knowing that it will make me feel sad.

    peace.

i understand you have a set belief system,

i am not trying to convert you to thinking people actually care about others in a non selfish way,

i care about people without making myself happy, along with making myself happy, i believe this,

you are happy with the way you think, and that is a good thing,

    peace.

Did you not know that people get pleasure out of pain? But...I know that you dont feel sad because you know your wife is happy...you might feel sad because she might have left you for example...but you feel happy or more exact at peace with knowledge that your wife is happy... And yes for every mood and thinking there is a different sensation, different chemicals involved, but all of it, all of it is based on the fact where humans seek to gain as much sensation from any situation they are in, this sensation...whether of hatred...love...or tranquility is what gives pleasure...different sort of pleasure for everyone.

Believe me I do not believe that people care for others of their selfishness...not at all...what I believe in is that humans are biochemical machines...and that the only thing that humans are worth of is the choices they make...humans can take pleasure from love of each other or humans can take pleasure from hate of each other...That is where it all matters...Of course the "good" as we know it wins, love wins, but deep inside it is a war of the good and the evil, where humans are all but choosers. I know what love is, love is the choice of a human to be on the side of the "good", where he/she feels for others pain and happiness

so what your saying basically is this,

people dont really care for anybody but themselves, every action is actually due to chemical reactions that we crave,

so we dont love our familys, we just do things for them because it makes ourselves feel good, we never do anything for anyone else for a non selfish reason,

so the word "nice" or "care" or "love" or "friendship" or other type of words that describe this type of ting dont actually exist for human sake, everything is motivated because we really just want to feel sensations.?

    peace.

yes...except humans choose whether they want to be on the good side or the bad side...the good side where your soul is at rest with the belief that care for others is beneficial to yourself because it enriches you and your soul and it reaches the soul of others. The good side is a choice a human makes, thus becoming part of a society.
The "bad side" is where you choose that others have no meaning to you, and that you know of this universe more then others and have no need for pity of others.
The choice is all that matters.

To learn from others or to see oneself as the only true believer

well you see, that is your particular belief system, but that is not mine, but i respect yours and understand it completely,

but it is an opinion not a fact,

i know chemicals effect us in many many ways, but i still believe its possible to actually care for somebody,

in a way i kind of pity you and others that think liek that, because if that is your mindstate, you must actually be aware of it at the time that its happening, ad you must realise everything you ever do is selfish, that must feel quite bad i immagine, to realise nobody actually cares about you and never will do, and people are only around you because it give them a chemical reactiont hat makes them feel good, im not bieng horrible but how does it feel to know nobody really likes you or cares about you or does anything for you for a truley nice reason?,

    peace.

lol... thanks for making me smile...no... I have many people who love me and what I respect in them is the beauty of the good I see in them, the beauty of caring for others, for not being selfish, for not lying, and so on... I love those people... The only reason I believe people are biochemical machines is because I am a scientist and I cannot accept facts just because of a certain belief, I must prove those beliefs or disprove them.

I pretty much agree with dragon with everything he said
Why oh WHY do people keep saying that??? What's the point?
    I don't get it.

It's like when people bring up the "fact" that technically no such thing as a fact exists... WHY?!

so its a fact that no1 really does anything for anybody for a good reaso, and its all self centered?.

when did you get the statistics saying how every single persons brain individually opperates, yes chemicals are present and effect our descision making,

but dont you realise one thing, we arent just a chemical reacting, we do have freedom of choice you know, and if we have freedom to decide and think for ourselves, we have freedom to choose what decisions we make, and for what reasons we make these decisions,

you would have us believe we only do things because we are proggrammed to, so you would state that you know the ins and outs of brain science? and how thoughts opperate?. would you like to explain in detail, the science of the brain then please? and where every single thought resides,

    thanks peace.

HI, what you need to explore is MATERIALIST PHILOSOPHY....! where Draqon is coming from is there. they believe that consciousness is a product of complex matter, brains....and thats that, just chemicals. this belief is the new religion, and is the current paradigm. ALL our institutions are based on tismyth, and will indpoctrinate you to believe that you
    are mere biochemical-machine/and glorifiewd computer

Now i am encouraging you not to believe them nor believe me but pon your own initiative to explore about tis, cuase you obviusly seem interested otherwise you wouldn't have started the thread abotr LOVE
checkout this guy, who is a professor of philosphy and has written a book titled Radical Nature www.deepspirit.com......he exposes the myth of materialism, and seeks to show how Nature is very much ALIVE/'sentient'---than just a bunch of chemicals, electrical cnnections, atoms, quarks etc seen as random and dead by the scientific materialists

They suck all the meaning out of life with teir dead INTERPRETATION of reality. formake no mistake. they have no real EFIDENCE for what they assert, tho tey will scream blue murder they do.

So in this spirit, i am sayin to you. Love is profound. it is depthless. it is CORE of reality....it is much more than the limited conclusions of the mscientists

first off, it's not like that. We do everything for good reasons. secondly, I wasn't saying it is a fact. (although I think it is).
That's your opinion, not a fact.
When did you get the statistics saying how every single person's brain individually opperates?
(see my point? you're in the exact same place. It's utterly pointless to point out the fact that it's not a fact)
No, but we only do things because our programming allows us to. I don't think even you can disagree with that. We can't just suddenly levitate and fly to the himalayas now can we? why not? because our programming doesn't allow that.
Nobody is saying that me typing this is programmed into me. But yes, our "program", along with past experiences, determines how we act.
Do we know every single thing about the earth? no. But do we know enough to say certain things? yes. Same with the brain. Do we know every single thing about the brain? no. But do we know enough to say certain things? definately.
Not being omniscient is no argument for or against anything. We know enough, and that's all that matters.
Hell no. First off, I don't know it all. Secondly, that would take FOREVER. and thirdly, thoughts don't reside in very specific places. Ok, some things, such as our ability to talk, our ability to understand language (interestingly enough, they're in two different places of the brain), certain smells, memories, etc. reside in gereral places in the brain (actually they're kind of specific... but we don't know like every neuron involved and stuff).
The FACT is, the brain has been mapped out very well indeed. I think every one of the areas that control every single muscle in your body has been mapped out, the pleasure centers of the brain have been mapped out, fear, etc.
If you want detail and more information, go to wikipedia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_brain for the general stuff
Here are some very general descriptions of the areas of the brain-
    http://define.com/ken/images/MRI/functional-areas.gif
Now, keep in mind that that's nothing. The brain has been mapped out in much more detail than that. And that is partly why neurosurgeons spend so many years in college and are paid so damn much. Because there is a LOT to learn about the brain. How it works, what areas control what, etc.

Religion my ass. It's called science. Science by nature is materialist. It is based on FACTS, experiments, empirical evidence, logic, reason, etc. Science is why we are not still hiding from thunderstorms in caves wondering why god is punishing us.
    eh, philosophy.
No really, we don't have any efidence.
We do, however, have TONS of evidence.
Let me ask you... what is YOUR "evidence"?. Give me ONE instance where something, anything, anything at all, has been proven to defy the laws of physics.
There is none. Because of this we can conclude that nothing ever defies the laws of physics. everything that exists in this universe does so by what physics says. Since we exist in this universe, we do so by what physics says. It's very simple actually.
