Damn, this night I laughed like I haven't been laughing in a long time.

Two of my friends got lost while hiking. They are stranded in the middle of some swamp for the night, because it's dangerous to go forward or backward without sufficient light, and the sun rises only at 7:30.

They didn't plan to sleep outside, but due to map confusion and a road ending in the real world, though it goes on in the map, they are now lost, but good that they have a tent with them, AND they have cell phone coverage AND internet with it.

The picture just astounded me, get this, they are stranded now in the middle of nowhere (foolish girls), but at the same time post on the internet!

Ov course I gave them a few advices on healthy survival (doubt they'll follow them all), and they can also look up pages on the internet with advices.
And they can even send their last will and testament over e-mail.

I do have a point on science and society, but I think the example illustrates it better than any words I can come up with.

why didnt they just call the police?

Why should they? It's just one night, and they'll have no problems getting out in the morning.
They have fire, food and a tent.

I just learned that those (foolish doesn't even begin to cover it) ......... girls haven't taken a compass with them!!!
What the fuck were they thinking about hiking without a compass?!! Well, sun rises in the north-east, that should help them a bit.

Yeah, that's the amazing bit. We've got 99 percent of our country's landmass covered by mobile network, including high speed internet (a bit costly, but it's there).

maybe they should get on google earth and look for themselves:p

And back into the civilized world where they could be run over by a truck or randomly shot while at school. Better off in the swamp I'd say. :D

We don't have school shootings over here, our gun control laws are pretty strict, besides they've finished uni.
