So, I am a pretty active person. Right now, im in Air Force ROTC and we have regular work outs. I play hockey and roller blade. I am actuall pretty toned... underneath the fat I still have from when I was younger (my highest weight was 240 and I was significantly shorter). Im 6'2" and weigh about 215 (and im built pretty big anyway... I actually have the structure like vin deasel and would look like that if i could ever get rid of this fat). Not too bad for being athletic... But i figure I could lose a good 20lbs. Its just that, nothing seems to work. My body is already in pretty good shape other than this layer of fat. Its like im storing up for a winter that will never come. Its impeding me from getting in better shape which I need to for ROTC, thats why i want to finish it off.

You cant like lose weight from a certain spot, so the only thing I can think of is eating like a leaf of lettuce every day and doing a whole lot of excercise EVERY day. Does this make any sense?

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Yes, get out of the army/airforce/navy and go to university to study a bit and enjoy life, or go travel around the world with a backpack.

Get a tropical disease.

Or a tapeworm.

A low calorie diet with lots of exercise would, in theory, work. But it depends how long you can let your body cannibalize itself before you decide to eat again.

-Try taking an e/c/a stack.
-More Cardio
-Iodine Supplement (be careful!)
-Completely eliminate simple sugars and refined carbohydrates
-More vegetables!
-Become an ascetic?

If you have a certain body type.. get used to it. Loosing fat without muscle is damn near impossible. And anyways, maintaining such a physique isn't likely to be healthier.

Tristan: I have the same problem: it comes with age.

I'm 48, 6', and gained 15 pounds over the last year (150 to 165). I exercise two hours a day (1,500 sit ups a day to keep my gut trim), switched to a lettuce diet with a slim half-steak, and only eat once-a-day. Still, no weight loss? I'm at a loss as to what to do from here?

i have to agree with zion here, i take this very seriously aswell,

with the small description you gave in the initial post, you dont have much to lose and bieng too "trim" is a bad thing personally as a personal trainer i would say you should keep a small % of body fat, too skinny is just as bad as overwieght,

just do alot of cardio workouts, and dont stop eating and all of that buisness, eat a well balenced breakfast always!, no matter your size, just dont snack on junk food, or eat anything other than your basic 3 meals per day, and keep them healthy, as your in the army they should provide healthy balenced meals,

if you have a punchbag at hand, go and hit the bag every day for about 20 mins per time, also do some shadow boxing, circuit training is good also, but keep it light nothing to heavy, go jogging in the morning before breakfast, (yes before), aldo do some drills, liek star jumps, jumping jacks, razors, crunches, situps, press ups, push ups, pull ups etc,

and most important of all, stretching and more stretching, stretch before a workout, and after a workout, and even dedicate seperate workouts for stretching, trust me its the most important part of working out, if you workout and dont stretch fully, you might aswell stop it all together,
im not talking about your hig school stretching before gym class, i mean real stretchign sessions, not just a little stretch here little there, feel that burn and always progress, the more stretching you can do, the more it will trim up any excess fat, also it prepares muscles joints tendons etc for the workout, and warms them up, you cant workout with cold muscles and joints, it causes alot of BS.

anyways i will help you more as you advance, i teach people western training methods, but i personally use eastern workouts combined with some western, i hit the heavy wieghts 1-2 times per week, every other day, i do shaolin training, running, small wieghts, (shi suo) (shi sui) stone lock and stone ball training, boxing, muay thai, systema, and a few other styles, i dabble in alot for like 17 years,

i suggest you dont just use gym workouts, you should realy be able to do all kinds of own bodywieght training before you hit the machines, the gym machines are nice and all but theres nothign you can do on a machine that you cant do without machines. there overrated i think personally,

peace.

"Still, no weight loss? I'm at a loss as to what to do from here?"

We hear that statement or ones like almost every day, don't we? But when someone says something like that, consider how the people of Ethiopia have lost weight/fat. Fat comes from the intake of food ...air won't do it, water won't do it. So, while I know this is damned difficult to understand and requires a tremendous amount of superior intellect ........if you stop eating food, you'll lose weight!

A surprisingly high amount of calories comes from alcohol, beers, wine ...
A bottle of alcohol contains as much calories as 1/3 kg (10 ounces) of butter .....

Too little fat is harmful too.
I lead quite an active lifestyle and the previous two years had a constant weight of 54kg at the height of 1.73m
But then I started to have lack of energy problems, was sleepy all day, couldn't do much at all, but fall asleep after a training.
This year I increased my weight to 57kg and all is good. I have a bit more fat at the stomach area, but at least I have no more energy deficit problems and it takes a lot more of physical activities to tire me.

Im still not sure whats so bad about fat. Sure there are health risks from being REALLY fat, or is it, that there are health risks from being inactive? Inactive people tend to get fat easier than active ones. But I dont think those inactive fat people are really kicking themselves because theyre inactive, but more because theyre fat and society says that being fat is bad. Its not inherently bad. Its what people do with the idea of fat that turns it bad. If you want to be an active person, youll do so, and probably wont be terribly fat. SHrugs. seems the sides are chosen.

No, I do have a slight - not overly - problem with gaining weight. I must lose 15 pounds, but if you don't eat everyday then you lose the nutrition that you need to stay healthy. I exercise two hours everyday and only eat a small meal once a day!!!

How am I gaining weight? And how can I lose it and still maintain my health?

Don't and I repeat DON'T stop eating! Some dumbasss says that air don't xcause weight gain...well genius you're wrong. If a person stops eating their metabolism slows when they start eating they gain back the weight plus more. After while the metabolism picks back up some (never regains full metabolism) and their weight ends up at a net gain not a loss from starvation. In case ya didn't know it a person can't live without food forever and a fat person can die of starvation before they become skinny. The Shaolin monk up there is right exercise before eating in the morning because before ya eat in the morning you'll burn "fat" not glycogen. I'd do at least 30 minutes of cardio before eating.Keep carbs low and protien high but don't over do it on fat keep you fat intake down. If ya do this along with the rest of you training you'll find those extra pounds come off.

I'm surprised no one mentioned anabolic steroids. Well, you might not lose weight, but you'll lose a lot of fat, and that's the aim, right?

Extra testosterone does wonders for building mass and reducing adipose tissue.
