Lord (James) Callaghan, last Labour Prime Minister before Tony Blair (from 1976 to 1979) has died, 11 days after his wife passed away.
His legacy as Prime Minister is not so good, being at a time of economic doldrums, but he remains the only politician in Britain to have held all four great offices of State: Chancellor of the Exchequer, Home Secretary, Foreign Secretary and Prime Minister.
Six weeks ago he became the longest lived British PM in history.
