An insect-eating mammal, believed for years to have been extinct, has been found alive and well in Cuba. The male almiqui, which is native to Cuba, was found in the island's eastern mountains, according to Cuban news agency Prensa Latina.
The discovery raises hopes "that it will not wind up in the catalogue of the irretrievable animals disappearing from the face of the Earth," said the agency. ( Full text here (http://www.ananova.com/news/story/sm_822421.html))Nice to see a cheerful story about something that hasn't gone

and another in 1999, so it was thought they'd disappeared.

Okay... I admit it. I just wanted to post the cool picture. I'd
love to have one as a pet... beats the hell out a hamster any
day. It looks like it should either chitter maniacally or maybe
let out some kind of high pitch scream.
