I must admit that I've never read the book, at least anything more than excerpts I've found on the web. I'd like to know your opinions on it. I bet Nabokov was an Edgar Allan Poe fan, I mean the main charecter's first love's name was Annabel Leigh.

    lolita is about pedophilia
the slang term would be "pervert"

Nabokov is a great writer. Russians consider his other works to be better than Lolita; not because Lolita is weaker, but because the subject matter is so obviously aimed at the American public. The book is marvellously written. Eventhough the topic of discussion is typically American (sex), the plot is nothing ordinary. Do not expect a typical ladies' romance novel here! The characters are developed so vividly that it often makes people think about how real these thoughts were in some real mind. "Nabokov is a pedophile" -- you see this comment because the book is so good.

Nabokov himself was nothing close to a pervert. You may look up his biography online. His books are influenced by the Surrealist movement, which makes them sound so bizarre and yet real.

Lolita is a classic. You will often hear references to it. However, I suggest you read his works on non-sexual subject matter first. And, if you can, read it all in Russian!

Only the weak minded and mentally insecure ones burn books,
    because they are afraid.
    Maybe you're a paedophile, loki_ghost.

Are you implying that because it is about a pedophile it cannot be a classic?... Clarify yourself, please.

"Pervert" includes pedophilia and other things. A pervert is not necessarily a pedophile, but a pedophile is a pervert (depending on culture).

Watch south park. You will learn more things.
It's a group of bunch of homosexual pedophiles. Even other homosexual groups don't like these guys. For some stupid reason, the gov. ain't doing anything about it.
    They is fucked up.

But what does South Park have to do with Lolita?

Okay, just a random thought: It would be nice if they made a pedophile repellant.

I believe you can find "pedophile repellant" naturally, or rather, it's in our nature, eventually.

Yeah, once I turn 18 they are no longer considered pedophiles unfortunately, so they can't be arrested. But untill then, do you know if like Wal-Mart sells it?

I thought is was a pretty good book, and Nabokov in general is an amazing writer. This book is more disciplined than the others, more of a strightforward story, and less wordplay. Of course, the subject is controversial, and that's what American prudes tend to concentrate on, but it's really a love story, a common theme in novels, especially forbidden love.
