Nice close up on that first image! I also like the background as well, it gives it more "character".Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
Can you open its wings? Are they striped as well? The ones we grew up with had black and orange stripped wings
I think locusts only develop wings when they swarm. otherwise they remain in the "imago" phase. Not sure what triggers the genetic "wings on" process.
....removed the pic from my quote to keep from contributing to the thread being flooded with the same image... AT any rate, that is a really interesting looking locust. The first thing I noticed was its coloration - which does a really good job of matching its leafy background. I noticed the rich shiny green matches the majority of regions in the leaf, and the yellow interwoven into it also matches the yellow at the edges of the leaf. BTW -- does it have an arched back, or does it have an oval shaped body? I'm used to grasshoppers/locusts having more of a flattened line shaped horizontal profile.
It doesn't kill them enmos. As kids we did it all the time, just to see the colors. Every once in a while you would find one with red instead of orange. Its not like we ripped them off.
I really like that first pic...so clear and colorful...nice job Varda. p.s. What IS the difference between a locust and a grasshopper?
