View Full Version : Linguistics/ Human Communication Forum?
sevenblu 06-06-04, 09:31 AM [I posted this in the Site feedback forum and realized it should have been here.]
I think that sciforums should add a sematics section to the philosophy subsection. Semantics and Language are a deep subject that deserve a seperate place other than Human Science.
The forums could include:
Semantics/Language
Human Communication
Linguistics
Foreign Launguages/Translations
Ethymology, Roots, Definitions
Word Games
All those tricky words (Palindromes, Anagrams, Portmanteu, Spoonerisms, etc...)
Net Lingua
Mnemonics
Ambiguities
Grammar and the like
Spelling
Slang (Termonology, Ebonics, Jargon)
Literary Languages and Alphabets (such as Newspeak, and the Utopian Alphabet)
Puns, Cliches, Phrases...
The list goes on and on.
Fraggle Rocker 06-06-04, 12:00 PM I second the motion.
Mephura 06-06-04, 12:05 PM sounds like fun.
I can already hear a certain some one demanding the moderator position.
I, once more, support the idea. :)
Interesting... be interested in reading there.
Poll anyone?
Stryder 06-06-04, 03:35 PM wot do we needs 1 of them 4's anyhows???
Sorry couldn't resist mimicing the current linguistic temparement of the current youth of today. Mobile phones and L33t phr34k to name a couple of small reason why linguistics is going down the pan in any language.
What sort of discussion do you think would be achieved in such a forum?
What sort of discussion do you think would be achieved in such a forum?
Whatever linguistic/language/etc. as mentioned in the opening post/ stuff is now spread all across General Philosophy, Free Thoughts, Art&Culture, About the Members ...
sevenblu 06-08-04, 06:32 PM Perhaps we could give it a trial run?
A trial run is a good idea. Ask Porfiry.
Closet Philosopher 06-12-04, 07:38 PM I like the idea. There are a lot of English Class threads popping up everywhere, they could all go into the new forum, and we can explore language more deeply. Great Idea!
sevenblu 06-18-04, 03:26 PM Maybe I should run a poll... What's the point though... Polls prove nothing.
I REALLY want this forum, and am willing to prostitute myself for it.
jadedflower 06-18-04, 04:27 PM Me likes the idaiea.
Logically Unsound 06-18-04, 04:30 PM wherd this come from?
ah well, sounds cool. but if it came from so long ago porf porbably disregarded it.....
Athelwulf 09-12-04, 04:45 PM I really want a place where I can discuss linguistics. I'm learning so much of it by searching the Net, and I'm sure other people know about it. I need all the knowledge I can get. There are so many members here. Some are bound to know a lot of stuff!
It would be helpful for people creating conlangs (guilty) and have questions (guilty again).
I say yay!
sevenblu 10-02-04, 11:10 PM man, I hope this happens... but I don't think it will -- it's been so long.
Athelwulf 11-08-04, 08:34 PM Or, let's just start a lot of linguistic threads. The mods will see that the forum we are asking for won't go unused if we do this.
All in favor, say "aye".
Aye!
philocrazy 11-09-04, 12:50 AM that's hot
Athelwulf 11-09-04, 12:51 AM Eh? Please, philocrazy, just a clear "aye" or "nay".
philocrazy 11-09-04, 12:52 AM aye aye
Athelwulf 11-09-04, 12:57 AM Good, we have a supporter!
I did my part! Have you?
goofyfish 11-11-04, 08:08 AM Added a poll.
:m: Peace.
Athelwulf 11-11-04, 01:05 PM Danke, vielen Dank, goofyfish. :D That make me so happy!
Athelwulf 11-11-04, 01:09 PM I propose that we just call it "Linguistics", instead of "Linguisics/Human Communication". I feel that "Linguistics" already covers "Human Communication".
If I'm wrong, explain to me why.
420Joey 11-11-04, 02:49 PM ... How About No.
Athelwulf 11-11-04, 02:59 PM ... How About No.
Read my post more carefully.
If I'm wrong, explain to me why.
. . .
hotsexyangelprincess 11-19-04, 10:33 PM aye to that one. this would be awesome. :m:
hotsexyangelprincess 11-19-04, 10:34 PM oh, and why do we have an abstain option? If you wanted to abstain, shouldn't you just not vote? :m:
YES! I love linguistics! :D
Athelwulf 11-20-04, 12:02 AM oh, and why do we have an abstain option? If you wanted to abstain, shouldn't you just not vote? :m:
It's so that people who are undecided can still cast a vote and bring the number of votes to quorum.
O' course, I highly doubt that the quorum will be met . . . Damn damn damn!
Strange... this poll is turning out more skewed towards 'no' than my poll.
hotsexyangelprincess 11-21-04, 12:07 AM okay... :m:
