I was just considering the best way to shorten the threads while increasing the content they offer. If you were to limit the number of times users can post on each thread to say 1 or 2 then people might think more closely about what their replies are. I know I'm not a shining example but I think if you implement this procedure it may very well work. Imagine that to respond in a thread people must actually think more closely about what they'll say, mostly because they have 1 chance to say it. Also if they ever wanted to change their post they could always go back and edit it, so this kinda does make sense in a way. It'll also save server space, what do ya think?
how would shortening the threads increase content? I think we should increase the content of this thread by padlocking it.
You're saying that limiting the number of times a user can post on a thread won't increase the quality of the 1 message they do post? How do you figure that guys? It would seem to me I'd write more, think more clearly, as would most of you all if it was limited. Alot of replies are 1 line or 2, this would certainly increase what people were willing to type I think... what logical reasons are you feeling it's a bad idea?
I knew you'd say that, it's a childish thing to suggest though. I was speaking of the Forum as a whole, why bother with such dribble. Aside from that I think it does make sense, so Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! : runs away :
how would your idea work for the following thread: http://sciforums.com/showthread.php?t=7435 keep in mind all the information must remain intact and you must maintain who replied to who and when.
It wouldn't stop anything, people will always find a way around rules or boundaries that get in there way. For instance if you could only post twice, whats to stop you editing your initial post and just included a length of quotes to posts that others have made so as to continue a discussion further.
It would only work -- and then some -- if a thread were so predictable that one could easily know in advance all forthcoming outcomes, subsequent posters and their individual opinions, likely outcomes and scenarios, inevitable conclusions, etc. -- I mean, had you, Stryder not said the above (and I didn't expect it), I, meanwhile, would not have interjected... see?
