I would like to dedicate this thread to my dear friend Mad Anthony, who worries about the Europeans' genetic make up so much.

Here is something to worry about:

"Sometime last year, the "minority" population of the United States reached the 100 million mark, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. That means only two-thirds of Americans are whites of non-Hispanic background. In four states--Hawaii, New Mexico, California and Texas--non-Hispanic whites are a minority. The march towards a less and less white United States would continue, even if U.S. borders could be hermetically sealed, because the younger the age of the demographic cohort, the less white they are. Nearly half the nation's children under the age of five, are Hispanic, Black or Asian."

I'm sure Whites will be leaving the US in droves. I see the same phenomena in suburbia. Once Blacks or Mexicans move up to a middle class neighborhood , thier white nieghbors move? Some will counter, "When Blacks move in, the neighborhood goes to shit". However, maybe you all should take a trip through Atlanta. There's some upscale "all black" neighborhoods that rival beverly hills. But this should be interesting to see how this trend plays out.

Well, it should be a given why Hawaii should not be a white majority state.

I don't think the real problem is the racial make-up of the country. Most people will adapt (if they haven't already) to accept those of other races. While I think will cause more angst is that as the demographics change, culture will change. There is a significant minority that I think will fight the cultural changes tooth and nail (like the increasing use of Spanish in regions with higher Latino populations and the inevitable incursion of new Spanish words into English that would cause).

America is a melting pot...but in a melting pot you get a mixture of the various ingredients. Add a new ingredient to the mix or change the proportions and the color and taste of the mixture change. A lot of people don't like the thought of that sort of change. They want new immigrants and those with different cultures to adopt ours/* with us not changing at all. They don't want a melting pot, they want bleach.

-----
/* Though what "ours" is, is open to some interpretation as there are certainly regional and socio-economic variations. In general, I think the average person may think of something approaching middle-class, white, middle-American, heterosexual family life as "the standard."

Its gonna melting pot traditional American values into oblivion at this rate. Maybe that isn't such a bad thing, but looking at how Mexico works I have my doubts.
