How many units can you have? and how long does it take for your body to remove one unit of alcohol?

here all alcoholic drinks must come with a label stating how many 'standard drinks' the bottle contains. a standard drink contains the amount of alcohol which can be processed safely by your liver in 1 hour.

as for how many you can have? as many as you want! your just not allowed to drive after more than 1.

im assuming the european 'unit' is similar to our standard drinks, which as i stated above, 1 standard drink contains the amount of alcohol which can be safely processed by the liver in 1 hour.

    muslim;

thats the idea, standardisation was introduced so that people know how much they could drink without getting drunk. they may want to drive later on, or maybe they just want to avoid date rape.

BTW, im an atheist and hit the piss every night after work.

This is equal to about two pints of strong beer (approximately) but depends on your body weight. But you can still be arrested for DUI if you have an accident and your blood alcohol shows up at 0.08%.

As for clearance of alcohol from blood, that depends on whether you have a meal with it (which increases your clearance) but average clearance is about 20 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood per hour, with a range from 8-32 mg per 100 ml per hour.

In the U.S. the rule of thumb is that you can metabolize "one drink" per hour. The alcohol content is roughly the same--20-25ml, a bit less than one ounce--in one serving of wine, one "shot" of hard liquor, one cordial glass of a liqueur, one average mixed bar drink that is not of the type designed to lay you out on the floor, or one 12-ounce bottle of the hamster urine that is legally marketed as beer in America.

The BAC limit for driving is .10 in most of our states, but an increasing number are lowering it to .08 . Teenagers are the worst offenders when it comes to drunk driving, and because of their inexperience, poor training, and typical lack of attention to the road, their rate of drunk driving accidents is horrifying. Yet the legal limit of BAC in teenagers is zero in many states. Apparently this type of law is useless.

You just need harsher sanctions. 15 days arrest, confiscation of car, bigger fines, suspension or cancelation of driving licence. Worked in Latvia.

Every country is different. Things that work in Latvia won't necessarily work here, and vice versa. Americans in general have no respect for authority. It's that old "revolution" thing.

harsher sanctions isnt going to help anything. public transport and a good advertising campaign would however. i know of hardly any drink driving incidents in the city, because people can walk, bus or taxi. out here however, drink driving is a common occurence, because we simply have no other means of conveyance.

Hmmmm - perhaps the authorities don´t want you to drive, when you are "tipsy" ........

One drink gives you 0.02 to 0.03 % in BAC - depending on, if you are eating with the drink (and many other things) ..

Normally you eliminate 0.015 to 0.02 % BAC per hour , so eliminating a drink takes between 1 -2 hours .... in my country we have a general rule :
one drink = 75 minutes (we are used to drinking )

Here in DK , the limit for driving is 0.05 % BAC , which equals 1½ to 2 drinks ......

And you say you don´t drink , Muslim , have some :m:

thats kinky way labeling alcohol in my opinion. how they define average person? And women process alcohol slower then men...

we have labels that state how much absolute alcohol this drink contains, for example, vodka is 40%, so everybody knows its 40% ethanol and 60% water, beer is ~4%-12% and so on.

Not meaning to nit pic but vodka is 37.5% by volume. Whiskey is 40%.
Units of course are only a guide, many anglo saxons descendants livers can take way other the recommend, due to the medieval habit of drinking beer instead of infected water.
