I have no difficulty boarding planes with items that could readily be turned into deadly weapons. I have also, inadvertently, passed through multiple security checks with a multi-tool fitted with a very sharp knife. Much of what is in place is window dressing. That annoys me.
By focusing on this aspect of terrorism, rather than addressing the root causes, governments are giving the impression of dynamic, positive activity and distracting attention away from the lamentable failures in their intelligence services, and even greater failures in foreign policy.
