Justin B. Rye's whole site critisizes Esperanto, a conlang he believes isn't fit to be an international auxilliary language.
I wonder what other SciForumers's opinions on Esperanto are. So . . . Let's share!

My yougest brother learned Esperanto years ago for fun.
I don't know much about it myself, but he says it was easy to learn. I have to say I'm impressed by any conlang that you can use to carry on a whole conversation, write books, etc.

Oh, him. I found his site years ago, haad a short argument via e-mail with him about his stuff about Heinlein I think it was. Nevertheless, I think he makes some good points about esperanto.

Esperanto is stupid because we already have plenty of candidates for international language: Latin, Sanskrit, English.

SAnskrit? Thats an odd one. Latin as well, since few people outside the cahtoic church still speak it. Spanish would be a better start.
Latin is very easy to learn, especially to those who's language is of latin origin. And those are many european languages.
Latin is very easy to learn, especially to those who's language is of latin origin. And those are many european languages.Latin is easy to learn compared to most romance languages, but it’s still far from perfect; it’s loaded with irregular verbs, utterly pointless multiple declensions, needless genders…

Chinese is better. A lot of people already speak it.
Just a matter of finding which dialect..

Precisely. When China moved into Hong Kong the boat police had a bit of trouble. The high heid yins in CHina are/ were promoting the use of Mandarin as a common language, except that all the Boat police staff spoke english and cantonese. So the new officers from red China had to use English in order to speak to the staff!

Just a matter of finding which dialect..Chinese would be a terrible choice. It’s one of the most difficult languages to learn.

Italian is supposedly one of the easiest to learn, but it has very few speakers in the scheme of things.

I thought this link would be interesting, as it discusses why Esperanto is a poor choice for an auxlang.
