I'm guessing there is a time travel anomoly on the Island in Lost. The time travel has set into motion the hypothetical self-correcting law of physics that would prevent a traveler from going back in time to shoot his own parents. This self-correcting mechanism was responsible for many of the events on Lost. What do you think?

I'll be happy if the sci-fi on this show is as rigorous as you describe, so that it doesn't degenerate into fantasy. I don't see how your hypothesis explains the paradox that everyone else "knows" that the survivors of the crash are all dead.

I'm still betting on mass hallucination. My wife simply gave up on it. She finds it as inscrutable as I found "Earth: Final Conflict," one of her favorite shows.

BTW, if the moderator checks in, this should be moved to the Sci Fi subforum with all the other threads about "Lost."

I gave up on it at the end of the very first episode.

A polar bear? On a tropical island? Do me a favour.

I'm so glad I got out early.

I always wondered how Ecko's brother's plane made it on the island. It was a small prop plane. It flew from Africa and crashed on the island. The island is between Australia and LA.
How much fuel do those planes have?

What everyone else? All you a have is the word of one person that the plane was found with no survivors, and that person has already been shown to be a liar (she said that she was sent by Penelope, but in the transmision from Penelope, she said she knew nothing of it.

Also, even if the outside world does believe that the no one survived the crash, that could just mean that the Others have enough pull/resources on the mainland to be able to fake the finding of the crashed plane.

And if you had stuck around you would have learned that the polar bear was an escapee from a zoological station used by earlier occupants of the island.

Sure about that? Just because the plane was on that route? How do you know the plane was flying in the right direction in the first place?

They are apparently 1,000 miles off course or something.

Anyway the show itself is lost on me nowdays.

I'm kinda glad it swapped over to Sky and I couldn't see it anymore.

I was worried it was going to go the same way as 'Twin Peaks', ie, that I was going to spend too long watching the series, for a WTF? ending.

Fine, they could have been 1000 miles off course, but on the other side of Australia? Look at a map. How does a small plane get from Africa to an island between Australia and the US?

With all the totally off the wall stuff that has happened, you are concerned over the location of the Island? You question the light aircraft getting there, but not the balloon!??!

Balloons can go farther with less fuel than a plane. It gets caught in a strong current and its gone.
And yes, I wanna know where the island is!!

I'm also gonna freak out if Richard takes off his shoes and only has 4 toes, just like that dang statue. A left over from an older civilization? Atlantis?? LOL, ok, maybe not.

And I definately think smokey is nano-technology. A left over from an alien 4 toed civilization? OK, maybe not that either.

Wasnt there a theory that the 'numbers' were some kind of co-ordinates for the Island?

The creators already said that the Island is not purgatory. The survivors are not dead. Indeed, the season 3 finale shows that they were rescued - so they can't be dead. Naomi lied. There's definitely a time travel element to it caused by the anomaly. The black smoke monster, however, has a supernatural flavor to it that goes beyond science fiction. It will be interesting to see how the writers explain that one. Anyway, next season will involve the cast trying to get back onto the Island, because they have discovered that they are mysteriously dying. Why? Because they weren't suppose to leave the Island and the self-correcting law of physics for time paradoxes is wipping them out.

Very few people plan intercontinetal trips on a balloon however, owing to the fact that you can't steer, .....

Or, in other words, I would have completely wasted my bastard time.
