Sometimes the Last post will show as (for example)
"Frogger 7.14pm Today"

Then, when you look at the post itself, the last post was by someone else the day before.

Is the system making things up so that threads look fresher than they are
or is there some other, perhaps more sinister explanation,
or even a perfectly reasonable innocent one.

It's possible that you're using Internet Suxplorer and have it set to not refresh the page each time you view it.

Tools/Internet Options/General - Browsing History [Settings]
Set it to "Every Time I visit the website."

Edit: Draqon. Please stop spamming every thread with gibberish.

Thanks for your replies.
You are correct in thinking that my computer settings cause the problem.

Chris, while viewing your profile I noticed that in order to PM you:

"You will need at least 20 posts to use this feature."

It doesn't say this when I view other member's profiles. And I'm pretty sure I have more than 20 posts..

Plazma ?
Invert ?

Edit: Or does it say that when a member has turned off PM ?

I think you got it with the Edit. It's a known error message problem. A hack could be written to give the right message however it's hardly worth the effort IMHO.
