Hi

First off.... sorry for the title.... I'm feeling terribly awful today....
Just now, an error occurs in my system, an LSA error, which disables my internet connection right away (Page not found error everytime I try to access a page), then there comes up an error report, and the system initiates restart..... The next restart, the problem restarts as well, so I unplug the net cable, then go offline playing games when I noticed that a program is consuming processor resource.... I shut it down, wait a lil time, then get back to net and it's all fine....
I wonder what this LSA does to the system..... and I hate it too that while I get this problem, my dorm-mates are playing online games...... duh....

Thanks for replies....

lsa or lsass? lsass is Local Security Authority Service.
I've found a reference to LSA on microsoft as Local Security Authority, so it might be the same thing. If this is what it is, it probably wouldn't be a good idea to shut it down.

Try searching Microsoft knowledgebase for the exact error message. It's possible that it's a vulnerability that is being exploited. Are you updated?

Oh, I see... sorry for being incomplete... I thought LSA would be clear enough....
It's indeed lsass (just like the acronym states, this problem sucks...). i'll check my system again.
By the way, about the problem, there's one more problem: My computer keeps running strange programs which consumes a great amount of resources, and their names, while varying from time to time, always have one in common: the names are composed by numbers, the '_' character and finally up.exe.
Thanks for the info.

that is spyware/adware for sure. I know it.
Get adaware from lavasoft to remove it

and spybot search & destroy as well.

Also, perhaps pest patrol, I recommended this to someone else who thought they might have a trojan, they said it was free. Don't have the link, do a google search.

Hi

First off, thanks for all helps you have given me :) Also, Avatar, thanks for the freeware. I've checked my system and removed all, supposedly....
Okay, the lsass problem seems to have been remedied by Windows Update, but I got another problem, my PC slows down like a slug every start up and now and then. When I checked it, it says a program AVSERVE.EXE (said to be run by me, how ridiculous) eats up too much processor resource. OUtta frustration, I stopped that program and delete it, and then restart. Now my PC's fine again :) phew.

Be glad too :)

Just found your problem, it's a worm.

Infected systems should install the Microsoft update to be protected from the exploit used by this worm. See:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/MS04-011.mspx

And the lesson is?

Update, people, update.

Might be a good idea to run an antivirus. Find out if anything else is going on.
