This is all hypothetical so don't flame me about the New World Order.

Assume that you are the King/Queen of the world and you are setting your goals. We aren't concerned about how you would accomplish those goals, just what goals you would select.

    Here's an example:
It looks like we are getting close to the carrying capacity of the Earth so a goal might be to switch to a sustainable approach.

So, what would your goals be?

i would sit back and watch the majority of the human race destroy themselves, and then rule a remnant who had actually learned something during this mess we call life, and wanted to start over with me.

If I were a king of the Earth I would preach a doctrine of acceptance and tolerance... I would make sure we grow more than we all need and make sure we are all fed. I would make sure the world would be full of teachers to educate the masses. I would end the 30,000 deaths per day from starvation.

high speed rail would be the primary mode of transportation. everything would work on green principles as much as possible in regard to current technology. city and town infrastucture would be overhauled for this purpose. all necessary public institutions would be set up in livable and logical promixmity. there would be lots of parks. zoning would also take into account what is needed and redundant businesses would be deemed wasteful. money would be obsolete and another system of credits would be in place. there would be no homeless. people would be intelligently ascertained to what their strengths/weaknesses as well as personality/interests were and to help determine their best course of action (they will still have choice in vocation though). the number of children allowed per family would depend on whether one could sustain them. there will be a form of "advocate/opinion" boxes/stations for public feedback as well as proposals.

    Money versus credits

Thank you everyone for your responses.

    Birch,
How do "credits" differ from "money"?

    War and terrorism

My most important goal would be to eliminate war and terrorism or, more generally, to eliminate the use of violence to resolve problems.

I hasten to add that I don't have the least clue how I would go about doing that but we waste trillions of dollars on it every year so it seems like a good thing to get rid of.

of course, there will have to be a complete overhaul of how we define commerce. this is of course hypothetical.

i would pose that there be a world central government as well as local government that uses more intelligent allocation of resources where all nations come together. this is not communism or capitalism. people who rise higher in ranks in profession would earn more credits rather than money but everyone would have basic needs met. but unbridled capitalism would also not be how it would work.

    this would also not happen.

i think, in the very, very distant future, that societies will look back on us and see how unintelligent and primitive we are in how we live and how we use resources.

of course, this new world order would be free from war but would still have constructive and positive competition.

this is a dream but without dreams, you can't even start.

i have a theory that when people's basic needs are met and it is a secure foundation, that people want to be productive and naturally will seek avenues of interest as well as keeping active. i think people naturally want to be productive.

those who seem wasted on drugs and alcohol usually have other issues which are the cause. they would be rehabilitated or possibility that there is a cure.

of course, in this hypothetical world, drugs would be more difficult to acquire.

for those who refuse to do anything, they can live with the most mundane and basic needs but i doubt that will make them happy. i think everyone has the ability to do something and add something positive.

this could be achieved by placing people in positions that are most suited for their abilities or lack thereof. if they refuse to do absolutely nothing, even if capable, it's their choice but they will be sterilized unless they are disabled etc. that seems harsh but logically it really isn't because they are not contributing anything but at least their basic and humane needs will be met. if they have other problems, they will be given every way possible such as different rehab programs/counseling etc.

i think a system where more cooperation is used is much better than dog eat dog competition in just attaining employment as people focus more on ways to keep their way of living rather than actually focusing on what they do or why they are doing it. i think everyone wants to do something they enjoy and it still benefit society.

    Why illegal?

    Ultra,

Why would it be illegal to refuse medical treatment?

I love your goal for pubs. Better pubs than churches.

I think in this day and age, there is more than enough wealth to ensure everyone needing emergency treatment should get it. I'm not saying it should always be free in all cases - people should pay what they can, but at the point of delivery everyone should be able to access decent medical care. It's not a right, but a decree!

i really like the idea of little capsule apartments that are stackable. it makes sense especially for single people starting out. the way it is now is really sloppy where people can't even barely afford their apartment, car, insurance, gas etc. it is just more of a grudging hindrance.

i thought that the small capsule apartment in the fifth element was pretty smart. i've seen similar cubicle type dwellings in some countries with a common kitchen or bath areas similar to hostels. it is humble but still gives people dignity and a modicum of privacy as well as basic needs met. some of them provide minimal basic food such as rice/eggs etc and even basic soap/toothpaste. the cost is inconsequential in the larger picture as it's pretty cheap. i think this idea can be expounded on.

i would propose that people be taken to work or be given transportation passes to do what needs to be done for the community. to rise above this and to live in larger or plusher dwellings as well as be able to buy (credits) food and goods they would like and choose a profession more to their exact liking, one must be either in school or qualifying for other positions. education will be free but there will be many comprehensive tests that cover the breadth of human psyche, cognitive ability and physical ability to help point the way or at least provide a more intelligent framework instead of wasteful skipping from one profession to another because one does not know themselves. once they are qualified, they can move out to have more freedom of choices as well as have credits for spending.

otherwise, everyone gets basic housing, medical care and basic food (not of their choice) but that is nutritionally sound. no cable except pbs (educational) or me on every station telling people what is best (lol) and no means for discretionary spending on housing choice, food, clothing, entertainment etc until they choose higher education or vocational training. placement would be mandatory.

there would also be a center for people to work on inventions as a hobby after-hours. also, cities and towns would work on a 24-hour basis, even educational institutions.

military would be only defensive forces. emigration between countries would be based on swap/exchange/jobs/education or vacation. people must fix their own countries but they will be given tools, resources and education to do so. volunteerism is allowed such as doctors with no borders. if it is squandered, that is on them.

if you smoke, drink or are overweight and you have health issues because of it where medical care is more accessed, credits will be deducted.

i think this could really work. though it is a lot like science fiction.
