    Tax cuts for the wealthy

It's nothing a tax cut for the wealthy won't fix.

One need look no further than these fora to find functional illiterates incapable of basic spelling & sentence construction, and with sub-par levels of reading comprehension.

They're not all Americans, but English is their first language.

Undermining education is really too grass-roots, too bottom-up for true neoconservatives. My fellow Merikans, if we are to hold to our true ideals, we must be agents for change beginning at the upper tier of society: We must purge the libral intelligensia. From the ivory towers of the libral univarsities, from the wrong side of Congress, let the Gloch Spiel. Then the true, uncluttered mind of neoconservatism will trickle down to all of Amerika. Thank you, may God bless ignerns, and may God bless America. Good Night y'all, heh, sorry libs, heh, nuthin persnil y'know I wernd ya yer either with us, or aginst us.

It is a bit scarry to realize that 50% of Americans read at or below the 8th grade level. Just a few years back the U.S. navy had all of its technical manuals re-written down to the 9th grade level. it appears that the manuals will have to be re-written again.

Turn the bezel counter clockwise to engage the internal mechanisms of the propellant tube charges... will have to be: Hook the thing up.

The dumbing down of our young people is a national disgrace. At some point will we no longer be capable of fielding a high tech military force. Until then, the powers that be, do not really seem to care.

    George W.

Somehow the the reading rate for Americans doesn't surprise me. Here is a tidbit for you, and it may explain why George W. is sooooo stupid. In the state of Texas, even though it is an old law, it is illegal to own a full set of encyclopedias! That's no bull.

That isn't quite true. It is the Encyclopedia Britannica which is banned, supposedly because it has the formula for making beer. Not encyclopedias in general, and owning a partial set of the Encyclopedia Britannica would not be legal.

And it is shameful that the reading level is so low. It is worse then the general crummyness of our schools can account for. It makes me wonder which came first, stupid Americans or stupid American schools?

    Not true?

Can you point me directly to that? The law that states only one kind of encyclopedia because I was under the impression it was all of them. Anyway, the point I was trying to make was why Bush is so ignorant!

Sorry, bud, I did find it, but I'm going to look some more because honestly, I thought it was all-damned if I can remember where I saw or heard it though.

That's an awesome link, Aldah. I'm seriously thinking of some civil disobedience just for fun now.

Looking over this forum, I might be inclined to agree with that study, although I don't. Doesn't anyone else stop to think about whether these studies are really completely true, instead of just taking it as fact?

I went to a private elemtary school that ran well for less than half of what a public school of the equivalent size would have needed, as far as money. Maybe even 1/5 as much, and I learned better than my peers who went to a high school. Maybe its because education is socialistic that it is doing so badly?

Education is about to explode. We are soon going to discard the old paradigm of "learning" in instantly-obsolete schools and universities, all the megacorp megagovernment Academia-Biz that beats down the development of creativity and intelligence. Knowledge and experience are all here on the outside. All we have to do is ditch the mullas and the madrasas and drink it in.

Very soon, sheepskins with your resume will elicit "eeeeeew..... OK: so, show us: What can you do?"

No, it is because there are bunch of power hungry morons who are not held accountable to anyone running the schools. Perhaps parents should stop watching television and start shadowing their kids at school to find out what a hellish prison it is for many of them. And I speak from the bitter experience of being a product of the public school system as well as working in it. Sorry for the vent. No need to reply.
