Um hi.

I think I'm somewhat a kleptomaniac.... almost anytime when I see anything lying anywhere without people noticing (or more exactly, without people paying attention to), I always have the urge to take it..... and the item can be anything..... pens, papers, even small electronic devices. *sigh*

But at the same time, I always find it hard to discard anything, even when they are of no more noticable use to me...

Is that difficulty to discard things and kleptomania related I wonder?

What do you think?

I think stealing from someone else is wrong. Would you like someone to steal from you? How would you like that?

I'm curious about you basic education and morality background? How could you have lived long enough to know how to operate your computer, but not know that stealing is wrong?

Pretty amazing, huh?

It's not as simple as that - i get the same kind of urge. It's just lying there....doing nothing....who would know?

And i can NEVER throw things away....i mean the second it's gone i'm gonna need it - i guarantee.

I guess maybe those things are related.
and yes i know the difference between Right & Wrong....i just don't particularly care

I wonder who you'll go crying to when something like that happens to you?

Don't care? Perhaps you need counseling ....perhaps a lot of it. Some for the urges that you can't control, then some for being stupid enough to post your problems on an Internet forum as though you're proud of them. Interesting ...and strange, very, very strange.

Shut the fuck up Baron. You're a moron. Don't anyone ever listen to the shit this mofo spews. He's a total hypocrite, and he knows it. Never done anything wrong in your life Baron? Stealing is wrong. Easy to spout. Moron.

But do you follow through with the urge to take the item? Many people can feel tempted by something, but just walk away without said "something". Because they know that taking it would be stealing and illegal. What you need to keep in mind in such situations is that taking it would be stealing and you could end up in jail if caught. Kleptomania is an illness. If you think you have it, you need to get help because if you don't and you finally give in to the urge, you could not only be harming yourself and your future (think if the owner sees you and their reaction and think going to jail and having a criminal record in regards to your futur), but if the owner is a person you know (eg. family member or close friend, boss, associate), you would be damaging your relationship with them permanently.

I would say that you would know.. however..

Says quite a bit.

I actually have to agree with Baron.. yes Baron, I too am frightened by the very idea... you may be in need of help fetus. If you know something to be wrong (as in criminal) and you do it anyway (eg steal), then something's not quite right there.

No. You're just turning into a Magpie. A Warepie, in fact. You're probably be doomed to live three nights every month around the turn of the full moon stuck up a tree and crapping on car bonnets. There's no cure. You're doomed. Doom-ed I tell you!

Thanks for counselling..... Well, sometimes when I feel like taking those "owner-less" things, either I'll take it when no one's around (I have one small calculator I took this way.... I was in an empty classroom after the class is over), leave it because there're people (more often than not), or leave it because I just don't think of keeping them (I missed some pennies, pennies I tell you, because of this.... yep, guess my 'illness' is pretty severe).... *sigh* I think I need to get something (no, not someone.... my parents' advices on this don't work anymore...) to support me to stop doing those.....

I see many things today but I wouldn't want most of them. I guess when you have enough money to buy anything you want, you really find nothing that you really need. Jewelery, electronics, autos, boats etc.,etc., are everywhere and can be "stolen" at anytime as you say however do you really need all that stuff?

Your problem is rather difficult to overcome but with proper help you can overcome these problems if you want to.

Curiosity old man, if you're a kleptomaniac, I'm a young Lauren Bacall and I look stunning in a bikini...

Kleptomania is an uncontrollable urge to purloin on impulse, not a rational debate.

I'm willing to take a bet here and wager you're what's commonly regarded as a good sort - considerate, conscientious, does his assignments, responsible...

Not necessarily completely true, but the sort of terms other people would probably use to describe you, correct?

There's nothing to be frightened of, but you should steal a bottle of aspirin and a large bottle of orange juice, take two of the stolen aspirin with lots of the stolen juice, then break into a house and sleep in the owner's bed until the symptoms pass.

If you are taking items that you think are "owner-less", you are a kelptomaniac. Those items do have owners. They do belong to someone else.

Seriously, get some help before you end up in prison with a criminal record to your name.

Heh!

I wouldn't do well in prison. I like being able to go to the bathroom without all and sundry being able to peer at me through the bars as I reach for the toilet paper. So I think I will buy my own aspirin and orange juice and sleep in my own bed until the symptoms pass.. ;)

As long as you don't steal anything valuable, you shouldn't have too much of a problem. As soon as you start stealing things that someone will miss, you've got a problem.

Is it the thief's place to put a "value" on someone else's possession? And thus only steal what he thinks is "not too valuable"?

What if the owner places a higher value on the object of the theft? What if it's a valuable antique which the thief is not intimately knowledgeable? "Gee, I didn't know that ol' violin was worth $3,500,000."

I just can't see theft as anything but wrong ...and that seems to be a fairly consistent "morality" in every human society/culture. The punishment might vary, but they almost all hold theft as wrong. The Saudi's cut off a man's hand if he steals a loaf of bread ...in hte USA, we give the guy a stern lecture, then turn him loose!

I get urges to take things that are left alone too, I just usually don't act on them. Learn to control that urge, think about how much whoever left their posession might need it. Think that you will probably not use it.

I would diagnose you with materialism. You want to take everything other people have but you don't want to give up things you have, even if they will probably be useless for you. It is hard to throw away old junk, but it's a habbit you'll probably have to develop (in case you move, and otherwise you'll just accumulate so much shit it'll take forever to keep track of it all). Find some friends, do some drugs, read a book, learn something. Material property is just a small part of a healthy life.

"do some drugs", robin?! *shudders*

just remember what will happen if the cops find you with a stollen ipod. that, and the fact that you can live on very little, man has been doing it since forever. try to be more resourceful, only using what you need, not what you want.

See a lot of you are saying about controlling urges, seeking therapy etc etc

but i just don't care - it's not serious - it's not caused a problem
So it's all good

So ....you're a psychopath? And you admit it? And you say it's not serious?

Duh!

Ahh the eternal if a tree falls and nobody's around did it make any sound.

Keep in mind that if you steel stuff in the store, you may think your not harming anybody. But the stores keep those smalls thefts into acount so therefore evry article in the store costs a bid more to compensate the losses.
