I've just been in the Israeli Art Museum in Tel Aviv and there is something I want to share.

Modern art is sick!!!

Some examples:

I've attached a photo of a.. pile of garbage. It casts a shadow on the wall. Maybe there is something in that shadow, but why the hell did they use a pile of garbage?!?!? WTF?!?!?

I took only one picture, coz it wasn't allowed to take pictures in there because these are private collections and stuff so I had to wait till the camera turns away from me and then do it without a flash and had to hold the cam for a few seconds so the pic is low quality.

Anyway, a few other things:

A photo of a pissing woman. I should have taken a picture. Seriously - A PHOTO OF A PISSING WOMAN.

Another thing that I really didn't understand - a statue of a woman scratching her leg entitled "woman scraching her leg". :bugeye:

Then of course all those modern compositions like a blue square inside a yellow triangle as well as all the paintings where the artist spills paint on the floor, rolls in it and then rolls on his canvas.

Oh and lets not forget all the paintins which look like they've been painted by a child entitled something like "6 fish and a bird" What the f***?

I really don't understand modern art. Louvre and Uffizi are great. This is real art. Michaelangelo, Leonardo da-vinci (not sure how to spell those names) but modern art?

Damn!

as art is intended to illicit a reaction in the viewer, this it has achieved:D

jokes aside... i agree its crap

Whether modern art is crap or not really depends on what you think art is.

Giotto is crap to me, but he is one of the masters.

Me and Peter Griffin went to the Natural History Museum in London last weekend. That sucked. I used to love that place when I was young. School sucked the fun out of it as we knew everything there

'Oh look, a giant plant cell......oh no....we KNEW THAT!!!!!'

going with class or a group of ppl to museums is dreadful

I like to go by myself
(thnk any god that going with class to museums quit after the 8th form)

also to excursions- if I go then I go alone or with some close friends

If I just want to sit and relax a little by the sea or in a forest then I hate to hear teachers saying to get up my ass and go to the buss to get to some boooring writers museum or smth like that

You see the same problem in film time and time again. Something is different from what the old norm use to be and therefore everyone feels it must be brilliant.

Every so often the counter-culture becomes the culture. At that point in time there will be three types of people. Those who never cared about what was hyped and have their favourites, (the vast majority) those who follow whatever some idiot says is brilliant and really have no mind of their own and those who will discover the next counter-culture which, inevitably, will become the culture.

Don't you just hate that? Especially when they do very stupid things. This is why I love this website:
http://www.rinkworks.com/stupid/

I was calling to sign up with a new DSL provider. When the guy asked what operating system I was using, I said, "Linux." I was put on hold for five minutes, and then a supervisor came back and told me, "You can't use Linux to connect to the Internet. It's a hacker tool, anyway." I almost fell out of my chair.

Oh Cthulhu, it gets worse:

Tech Support: "What kind of Mac do you have?"
Customer: "It's the kind that sits on my desk...not one of the newer ones."

Oh! *Cries* Every horrible stereotype about Mac users.

Friend: "The program is written, and I'm debugging it."
Boss: "What's wrong with you people? You make programming more difficult than it needs to be. I have Frontpage Express to write web pages with, and when I write code with it, I never need to debug it. If you were as good of a programmer as me, you'd never need to debug either."

*Weeps*

Customer: "I bought your fancy graphics card, and my Windows display is not better than it was before."
Tech Support: "We had better look at the installation then."
Customer: "You mean I have to install it?"

The graphics card was still in the box.

I love these!

Oh I TOTALLY agree. Making a good webpage is a lot of work.....otherwise you end up with geocities-esque crap. And the idiots who get html editors for dumbasses don't help.

Ewww, gag me with a spoon! This is horrible.

I blame AOL for the morons who do this. Certain sorts of people should NOT have i-net access. Ever. They should be rounded up and killed painlessly.

naa- that particular character was from Latvia.

But AOL really plays big role--- these people are threat to web...

I see web as an art - these people trash it, they destroy, I dare to say, harmony - it is just like if in ancient greek city you made a chemical waste disposal

EXACTLY! There was a time where one could check newsgroups and not be inundated with crap of the "LOL chek out www.hamsterdance.com" for the five billionth time variety.

Now we have the flooding of the web with Jeff K wannabes, soccer mom's on their AOL accounts, horny brats whose sole function is to feed the pron industry and.....

*Xev wipes a bit of foam from her mouth*

Grrr!

On a lighter note, remember Mahir? :D

Errr..back to the subject that BloodSuckingGerbile was talking about...:)

Actually, I found the sculpture (or whatever the heck it was) of a pile of garbage to be very meaningful. Take another look at it. Doesn't it resemble a person lying on the ground? I suppose it represents a homeless person, collapsed on the side of a city street, and all we ever see of them is exactly what the artist is showing us: a pile of stinking garbage. The shadow casts a gloomy aura of blue, which is synonmous with melancholy, sorrow, and dejection. Plus, the clean white background clearly shows how misplaced and unwanted the pile of garbage is, which is how some people think of the homeless.

But the pissing woman? That is just nasty!! :D

IMO, I like going to museums with my friends. We can always find things to talk about the artwork, and we each have different points of views, making for wonderful debates. :)

There was a topic here, Bluesoul? Sheesh. I'd have to go back to my laundry (I hate laundry, so I let it pile up for weeks until I do a few huge loads and then fold for hours. I reached a breaking point a few days ago when debating "hmmm, which of these pairs of socks is less dirty?" :o )

Wait...actually, I don't like all museums. Ripley's Believe It or Not is like a gathering ground for human torture and exceptional freaks. I don't relish knowing more about how a man survived with a metal tube in his head than Velsmann.

I generally agree that most modern art is crap, but I like the one you posted the picture of (the pile of trash).
The shadow looks like a sleeping homeless person, and my impression is that the artist is questioning the values of a society that will treat their destitute and needy as worthless trash.
