Anyone listen to any good Japanese music? New Japanese artists? New genres? Fast Japanese music? Loud Japanese music?

There is a lot of Japanese music, and my range is stereotypically very narrow.

I listen to many technopop anime themes that many J-rockers and J-rappers would deem "cheesy." Not that I don't listen to J-rock, albeit a small amount.

Because of my relative lack of this genre compared with trance (oh yeah, there's that Ayu stuff), I won't specify any songs unless you like cheesy technopop.

I have only heard (and loved) the soundtrack for Wasabi, a movie starring Jean Reno and Ryoko Hirosue. I heard that she is a singer too. Ever heard her sing? I don't know what you would call the genre of music that was in this movie exactly, but probably something close to cheesy technopop.

Can you tell me of some more artists that you like, Facial?

    *raies hand*

I listen to some J-Rock artists. My ultimate recommendation would be to listen to Nanase Aikawa. She has such an explosive energy it's hard not to like.

Boom Boom Satellites have some quite chilled out tracks but also some rock/pop tracks that are worth listening to (I Would Dive For You).

If you're looking for a little spunk, try out a bit of SADs. Pornstar is a song I consider a classic

But if you're looking for a bit of aggro, try some Mad Capsule Markets (amazing live, trust me) and Miyavi.

If you're too used to US HipHop, you might find Japanese HipHop amusing. I still can't get used to it. Best try HALCALI, they seem to be quite popular over there.

I've also got a few Nagauta tracks on my PC. Very calming and often used in Kabuki theatre. I don't have any artists, they just say "Nagauta - Track x" as it was from a CD my friend loaned me.

Hope this helps somewhat, if you need more info just ask away

Thanks Thor. Have you ever heard Ryoko Hirosue? I haven't, unless she sang some of the songs in Wasabi. Is there still anywhere left to go to, to download some of this for free? Got any sites where I can at least sample some of this?

What genre would you call that? Or is that a station or something?

To be honest, I've only seen/heard her in Wasabi (good movie, I do like Reno's stuff).

I'm going to be honest here, I still use |<@zz@ Lite to download most of my music. It still works for me. I also download a few albums from the BitTorrent community, these sites can be found easily through google.

I'm taking a mosey around the net trying to find some good links to samples or maybe some promo MP3s. Sometimes, people put Japanese tracks onto their MP3 rotation sites.

Edit to add: X-Japan is indeed a band. They're a mix of genres, I tend to associate them more with the 90's J-Rock scene but they do have some symphonic tracks.

Thanks again Thor. I don't know how you guys have so much energy and motivation to do some of the things you do, like "taking a mosey around the net trying to find some good links to samples or maybe some promo MP3s," but I really do appreciate it. I just don't have the energy to do things like that anymore. Thanks in advance, even if you can't find any.

I've just found a Torrent for her "Perfect Collection" which was released in 2002. I'm attempting to download it now but it doesn't look like there are any seeds at the moment. I'm going to keep it on for a while though as sometimes these things take time (could be weeks). Here is where I found the torrent: http://www.mininova.org/tor/117990

Also trying to find some things on |<@zz@, only found one song so far and that isn't budging. If I do actually get any, I'd only be too happy to whack one over to you.

Still looking on some rotation sites, so bare with me on that one.

Hey, no rush whatsoever. I think I'm about to go to bed actually. I hate trying to get to sleep after the sun comes up, and it's gonna be coming up any time now. Take your time, if you still feel up to it.

    My reasons are partially selfish

I want to listen to them as well. The torrent failed, as I suspected it would do. No seeders thus kicked from the tracker.

Success!! I've found a single MP3!!! Rejoice and be praised. I found it here after slashing my way through page after page on google with my e-chete: http://www.animeafterdark.com/j-pop.htm

As with all of these Japanese MP3 sites, be sure to *ahem* delete this MP3 after 24hrs, it is for *ahem* sampling only.

    Good night

Alright! I'm awake still. I'm listening to them right now. The first one, by Ryoko, was upbeat, but not quite my thing. I'm gonna keep trying. Found one you liked yet?

edit: is "e-chete" a tool, or just a phrase? I like the second one.

No, not yet. The one on that site was more on the Jpop side :bugeye:

e-chete is just my online machete I use for searching through the internet jungle.

I must admit that this artist is one of the harder Japanese artists I've had to find

Thanks kenworth. Do you know any sites for free downloads or samples of them?

Thor, but is your "e-chete" a program or something, or just a phrase you are using?
