Republicans must Bid for the Christian Right

The conflict has been brewing underneath the surface, but the results of the straw poll at Saturday's Values Voters Summit made it official: the real struggle in the 2008 Republican primaries will be not between Rudy Giuliani and Mitt Romney or social conservatives and fiscal conservatives but between Christian Right leaders and the conservatives in the pews.

Can you imagine what the founding fathers would have to say about this?

I wonder, will the Republican Party of God split in half? Fiscal conservatives on the one side and the Christian Right on the other. Neither are happy with the GOP. Bush is plowing through our savings like a drunken sailor on leave and he has not fulfilled any of the requirements that the right wing nuts wanted implemented - like banning Gays from living in America and making abortion punishable by death.

It'll be interesting to see, after the 2008 thrashing, how the Party of God stands - divided or united?

Ron Paul is a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma this is because he makes a little too much sense which may sound oxymoronic but isn't really is it?

    I'm surprised he's a Republican.

I think the founding founders may find a kindred spirit in may aspects.

    Michael

PS: Do you support the POG oh I mean GOP? As Ron will not get on the ticket - WHO will you vote for?

For the record: I may disagree with Ron Paul but I think he'd make a great president. People have to get back into the frame of mind that the government serves US we do not serve it. As a civil institution it has taken to much responsibility from the people and Americans have become soft for it. Time to put the responsibility back in the laps of Americans.

    Michael

NOTE: I still support health care for children

Republican Presidential candidate Ron Paul has broken through to the top tier of Republican candidates running for president. He knows it, GOP voters know it, and as previously reported; media outlets are grudgingly admitting it.

The Republican Party appears to be recognizing that Ron Paul has a chance of winning the nomination. Paul said to supporters:

“After all the aggressive wars, the assaults on our privacy and civil liberties, the oppressive taxation, and the crazed spending and deficits, I believe that many Republican voters are ready to return to our roots. And the big boys feel it too.It is no coincidence that the Republican National Committee invited me to a fundraising dinner involving only top-tier candidates."

I'm less concerned as to whether he has a chance or not (your gonna be suprised

) and more concerned that if he did become Pres that he would be assisinated.

    Peace

    a) is Ron courting the evangelical right?
    b) is it possible that the Republican party could split? Christians Right on one side fiscal conservatives (including Gays and atheists) on the other?

Ron pushes no religious views on anyone.
He is pro life but believes it should be up to each individual state to make the laws on abortion.
Split?...Who knows. It's definitely not neccessary and would only confuse things even more.
We only need one side, Constitutionalists.
    A basic over view....

    Paul can't win.

They're all courting us because we decide who wins. Everytime.

We don't support anyone right now. If Romney was a Christian he might have a chance. But not now. Not a Mormon. Not gonna happen. If we don't come up with a plan B by January, we will support whoever the nom is.

And if you knew anything about the ridiculous child healthcare bill, you would veto it too. Couples earning up to $100k don't need handouts from the gov.

Haven't learned from the past two elections, I see. Even if you win the election, you still lose.

    Sandy,

Who do you want the Republican nomination to be?

Would you be happy with Ron Paul?

Would you vote for Rudy Giuliani? Hid platform is pro homosexual marriage, pro gun control and he promised to appoint pro-choicers to the bench? Is this guy even a Republican?

Also, do you think that Bush and Cheney have properly supported the Christian Rights positions? If I remember correctly the Republicans ran both congress and the WH - What did they accomplished for you? All the support that was given to them amounted to what exactly?

You don't consider Romney a Christian? What exactly is his religion then?

I'm all for Ron Paul...he's pro-life, for gun rights, against welfare, Christian and conservative on everything, except he's against the war in Iraq, I really hope he wins, I think he CAN win, he raised almost as much as McCain

Giuliani is a nightmare but he's leading right now

    Sandy,

    1) If a child's parents are not earning above 25K per year do you support their children having free basic health care?

    2) If a child's parents do not have any income do you support their children having free basic health care?

    3) If a child is in an accident or born with a life long disability, something that is beyond even the means of a family earning $100,000/year (lets say the expenses are $200,000/year - do you support that child having free health care?

    Lastly

Do you think ALL children should have access to free K-12 education or only the children of those families who can afford it?

I want the nom to be Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, Sean Hannity, or John Hagee. Seriously. I know they won't run. They don't want the pay cut or the hassles. But each of them would be awesome for this country. They would whip it back into shape like it used to be before all the pc bs. :xctd:

No, I would not vote for Paul or Giuliani.

Other than the lax borders and big spending, Bush and Cheney are ok with me.

Romney is a Mormon. A Mormon is not a born-again Christian. Ideally I want a born-again like Bush minus his flaws. :bravo:

What about Fred Thompson or John McCain? If Republicans are indecisive it seems like Hilary will win...but Hilary wants socialized medicine, so I'd vote for anyone besides Hilary

If it comes down to Paul vs Hilary who would you vote for?

And...you can't be serious about Sean Hannity and the others listed...what experience do they have?

No for Fred or McCain. I will vote for the Rep nom no matter who he is.
I am serious about my 4 suggestions. ANY of them would be better than all 3 of the lib candidates combined. And WAY less dangerous for the USA.

I understand that, but what I was wondering is: What have Bush and Cheney actually accomplished over the last 7 years that has been positive for the Christian Right? I wondering about specific things that they have accomplished.

Also I was still wondering about your notions on Child care.

    1) If a child's parents are not earning above 25K per year (so from 25K down to nothing) do you support their children having free basic health care?

    2) Do you think ALL children should have access to free K-12 education or only the children of those families who can afford it?

Well I will take that as nothing. Intellect to a evangelical Republican is like sunlight to a vampire.

    Painful.
