Really! I have been looking for such a software. I have to deal with a lot of writings on a daily basis and most of these are in JPEG or other picture formats. I know that you can change pdf to word, I don't mean that. Is there any program that detects writings in pictures and turns them into word, excel or other writing formats?

This has to do with pattern recognition, which computers are not good at. That's why people make you type slightly scrambled letters in to a box when you register for something on-line.

What you are looking for is an OCR (optical character recognition) program. There are several around, but unfortunately as Spidergoat has already mentioned, they don't work well (or at all) on handwriting. They are mostly for typewritten material, like a scan of a page of a book for example.

Well, I suppose asking for a computer to recognize handwritings is a bit luxury for our present technology. The ones that detect type-writings/printings will to a great extent do for me, can you suggest some names?

If they are in a computer-readable form, OCR is pretty reliable. You run into problems if the text is in human handwriting.

I don't know of any off the top of my head. I know I had OCR software that came with my scanner, but that was back in the 1990s, and that scanner is long since dead. It wasn't that good, and it misread a lot of words. I'm sure the technology is much better today.

Wikipedia has a list of OCR software (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Optical_character_recognition#OCR_software). I haven't tried any, so I can't vouch for it. You should take a look at it.
