I can't imagine how this conversation would go...

Person 1: "What kind of doctor are you?"
Person 2: "I'm an abortionist."

I was just wondering about this- since we have a specific name for common specialists- cardiologist, oncologist, rheumatologist, so on...

Are these people( "abortionists") just general practioners and internists, go through a different medical training to specifically become an "abortionist"? I guess what I am looking for is, is there euphamism for this practice?

Errrmmmm I think most doctors who perform abortions are pretty much gyneacologists or obstetritians, which means that these doctors face much further training than normal GP's and abortions are just a part of their training and jobs.

Most clinics where abortions are available are general health clinics or women's health centres, where it's not just for women wanting abortions. These clinics and the doctors you referred to as abortionists cater to most issues faced by women (pregnancy, giving birth, abortions, general gyneacology issues, etc) and some also specialise in areas such as fertility where both men and women are treated. And some also treat men (mostly in the general health clinics). Abortionists aren't just that and don't do just abortions, but are specialists in their own right (gyneacology and obstetrics) performing abortions is just ONE part of their duty.

What should be asked is why don't the women use contraseptive devices so as not to have to go to these doctors. Men also should use condoms to help from getting their partners from becoming pregnant to start with. Using codoms also helps in stoping the spread of diseases. The doctors are only doing what the women want done, they aren't making the women come to them and if those doctors weren't there those women would try to perform their own abortions with very tragic results .

Cosmic: Even if everyone was perfectly responsible, there are some pregnancies that represent too much of a medical risk to the mother, and so therapeutic abortions would still be needed; this is not considered unethical in most states, and is no-one's fault. No amount of responsible behaviour would make abortion disappear.

Aside from what BigBlueHead correctly stated about medically essential abortions, one should also consider the issue that because many US schools are refusing to teach children about contraception, I could guess that many teenagers, for example, who are or become sexually active could end up seeking to have abortions as well, as they do not know how to use contraceptive methods or measures.

is it true that the highest amount of teenage pregnency comes from hardcore-religouse girls schools?
which also goes hand in hand with teen age drug abuse?

BigBlueHead......

I pointed out what could be done to try to stem the unwanted pregnancies to begin with. I also was saying that the doctors ARE benificial in that they reduce injuries to the woman that is having the abortion. There will always be unwanted pregnancies but anything that both men and women could to to stop that from happening would be of great help.

So, what do you do for a living ?

"I am a bellydancer, I dance on the bellies of pregnant religious teenage girls"

or:

"I am God and the Devil in a yellow submarine, I am Mother Teresa and Saddam throwing dice with your live at stake...
....I am Jack Nicolson and Dennis Hopper in their best acid trips and their worst nightmares, I AM the cosmic egg and the person who ate it .... but you may call me the Repoman"

True... but remember that condoms don't really work that well, especially when you have sex regularly... they can't be relied upon to protect you from diseases for any length of time.

I heard that in Prague, people refer to abortions as "cancelled Czechs".
