At times on this forum people have given information that has allowed me to gain access to members personal information. I normal ignore such security breaches but at times, to assess the stance of a member I do pry... Is this against the sciforum rules as I cant find anything saying you cant. Or should the rules be updated, and or a warning given out to remind members that there is a lot of information given out when posting.
i think it would be useful if you elaborate on the type of info and how it can be used to disclose more info. that way we can perhaps be more guarded with what is actually revealed do it for the community, brother blind
Yes, we demand full disclosure! What information regarding which members? How can it be used? Specifics please...
strangely enough, i recently acquired an email address of a old friend thru a mutual friend. after attempting contact thru an email i decided to google with just an email.... google tells me her name is __________living in hove, working in brighton, doing charity and community work, and has a 17 year old daughter named ________. her last name is different from the one i knew so she is/has been married thats of course by working on a series of fairly logical assumptions nothing to it really the point is, not only can i call her, i could physically track her down and do a face to face if the less than year old info is still valid. of course to do all that without an invite violates personal and societal norms and conventions so it is hardly an option i'll just wait for an email response /shrugs
Blindman isn't by any means a genius, he intentionally sought out information to attack me with. Blindman accessed an open school server which contained some of my Meteorologist reports I had made available to professors amongst other hosted images and documents for my fellow students. I never closed accessed because I never thought someone was a jerk enough to mess with them, Blindman proved to be that jerk because I mocked atheism. I did a recursive chmod on them and they're hidden Great job blindman, you've made someone moderately inconvenienced.
I inconvenienced you because I looked through your open window???Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! Mess with them?? WTF...how? I just looked. Maybe I should have uploaded some inappropriate porn/ terrorist propaganda and called the feds. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! Yes I called you a Jew... Ouch. Cry baby....:runaway:
Blindman: it sounds like you need a life, or a job, or something to occupy your time with besides anonymously researching sciforums members.
Dude, the site is crawled by Google. If people post information here, it becomes available to the entire planet. So if people post personal information, it's tough on them how it gets used.
Have not worked for almost two years now. Royalties give plenty of money and best of all plenty of time. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! Thats the way I see it. Im not hacking just looking. To defend against a troll its worth the small effort. I joined this site over 7 years ago and enjoy participating. And will till it is shut down or I die.
Blindman: someone who is aged and of declining use in the world (such as yourself) should find more productive ways to occupy your time.
Royalties don't last forever my friend. I am 42 years young and am working on several projects that should continue my income. I would rather spend a few hours day on the web then sitting in front of the TV. Helps me relax. I pay my taxes. I still aim to create innovative products that further society.
That's a bit harsh, being a Jew is a genuine disability. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! Joking aside (seeing as my Jewish friends are lovely and definitely not disabled), you shouldn't beat on the retarded kid, it isn't nice.
It really is dependent on the nature of the breach. If you are session hijacking then obviously it's going to be frowned upon. If you are talking people into letting you log into their account (social engineering) then there is not much the site can do other than warn people to not hand out their personal details, especially if those details are used on other sites as password and security passphrases etc If you use a computer where someone else hasn't signed out, again it's down to the use to log out correctly (lessens chances of session hijacking and of course people just using your login) In any case, if it's identified that a person is attempting malicious actions towards a user, it can be seen as being as an attack against the site. This would likely cause the response of banning IP ranges, informing ISP's or Network Administrators on your network, and/or informing various authorities. (Of coure it's all dependent on severity) Just remember that any attempts to manipulate the DB server or the way the site parses will likely cause data integraty errors, which might be fun for the idiots that think bringing a site down is fun, but for the most part it's pretty immature. Obviously we would enquire as to what method you attribute to being a data breach, since at the end of the day we are all for stability.
Could you please elaborate on how you collect personal information about members. I'm stalking Skaught, and I need to know where he lives...so I can set up these cameras, and steal a few pairs of his underwear. Thanks.
I don't know why, but I suddenly get this depiction of a pair of Y-fronts flowing freely aloft a flagpole with large capital characters spelling Skaught..... Perhaps a new Avatar picture? (Just for the sake of anything you are fond of, please make sure you use a clean pair)
That reminds me of a story. A guy I used to work with got fed up having his car broken into. So he bought a pair of white y-fronts, and used a tea bag to put a big brown streak up the back, and once dry, pulled them over the headrest of the driver's seat. His car wasn't broken into after that. I guess wrongdoers feared what else might be in there.
