It's nearly four AM, and I am hanging out, waiting for the meteor shower to peak. to this point I have seen one (1) meteor. Anybody having any better luck?
I was supposed to go up Aurther Seat (hill in the middle of Edinburgh) but decided that it was too cold - it November and i'm in Scotland - am I mad?? Obviously not, so stayed in bed a looked through curtains lack of dedication showed me some rain but no mets
I woke up early this morning, looked out my window at about 5:15 and saw a few meteors, nothing amazing though. Last night I spent half an hour setting up my telescope to look at the moon (the f*cker was at the very top of the sky) and wound up being unable to focus on it. I was really pissed off. All I got was this big white blur. Can anyone help me out? Anyway so after that I just swung the sucker around the sky, eventually focused on Mars. That vos nice.
It's very odd that you can't focus on the Moon, yet you could focus on Mars. I suspect that perhaps "focus" is the wrong word. Tell me more about your equipment, particularly the telescope type, aperture, and focal lengths of the telescope and eyepiece. Also describe in more detail the "unfocusness" you were experiencing. Was it wavering or shimmering? Red and blue lobes on the sides of the Moon's disk? - Warren
I got some nice good looks at the moon last night. Nice view of the big crater with impact marks (is it clavius?) Then I up and forgot about the meteor shower. I was pissed this morning.
I'm new to the whole telescope thing, chroot, but I will appreciate your help. I'm not at home right now so I can't check the eyepieces, there are two of them that I can fit on to the side of the thing, which has a six inch mirror...or whatever you call it. I can see the stars fine, but the moon left something to be desired.
FYI, it ended up being really worthwhile. When Deena called me at 3:55, I thought I wasn't going to see anything, but about a half hour later there was some real activity. There was one particularly bright meteor that left a huge, lingering luminous green trail. Is that phosphorus? Anyway, it was neat. Better telescoping, Pollux.
