View Full Version : Is America ready for a Mormon President? (Poll, a quarter to a third reject Mormons)
Tripo lee 02-17-07, 07:05 PM I saw the poll quoted on The "News Hour" with J. Lehrer (on Brooks, Shields debate).
Here's more on Romney "Mormon-ism" factor.
In 2008, Will It Be Mormon in America?
The country could be looking at its first Mormon president--or, as Romney would prefer to put it, a president who happens to be a Mormon. ...

madanthonywayne 02-17-07, 07:32 PM I really don't think being a Mormon is a big deal. The only mainstream religion that I think might be an impediment right now for a presidential candidate is Muslim.
Nikelodeon 02-17-07, 07:33 PM What about atheists?

Ooooo. I forgot about those guys. Yeah, an atheist probably would have a hard time.
Prince_James 02-17-07, 07:56 PM So long as he isn't militantly an Atheist, I don't imagine he would have a problem securing the votes.
Very few politicians are super religious.
I read it as Moron President,, and I'm like WTF? Ready???

Sure, so long as he pops in to Church once in a while, he'd be cool. But if he were known for being an atheist, I say he'd have a problem.

You dont have to be super religeous. But seriously, if someone said they didnt believe in God, do they really stand a chance??
Prince_James 02-17-07, 08:22 PM I don't see why not?
I doubt it.
According to a University of Minnesota study, Atheists are America’s most distrusted minority. If fact, Atheists rank lower on the charts than Muslims, immigrants, homosexuals, and pretty much any other minority group. What’s even more entertaining is that, “Atheists are also the minority group most Americans are least willing to allow their children to marry.”

This group does not at all agree with my vision of American society...
Atheist: 39.6%
Muslims: 26.3%
Homosexuals: 22.6%
Hispanics: 20%
Conservative Christians: 13.5%
Recent Immigrants: 12.5%
Jews: 7.6%
I would disapprove if my child wanted to marry a member of this group....
Atheist: 47.6%
Muslim: 33.5%
African-American 27.2%
Asian-Americans: 18.5%
Hispanics: 18.5%
Jews: 11.8%
Conservative Christians: 6.9%
Whites: 2.3%

I wouldn't vote for a Mormon president. Would you vote for a guy who thinks the earth is 5,000 years old, and the Israelites had chariot battles on the Great Plains?

Do you really think every Mormon believes all that stuff literally? What religion are you? Do you believe everything in your religion is literally true?
Do you really think every Mormon believes all that stuff literally?
Too many to risk voting a cultmember into office, yeah.
What religion are you? Do you believe everything in your religion is literally true?
I'm Christian, but I think Jesus was just jaykaying when he said "turn the other cheek".
Oh wait, I'm not that big of a hypocrite. No thanks to sacred idiocy, Doctor Wayne.
Athelwulf 02-19-07, 10:35 PM I would be fucking scared if a Mormon became president.
What about atheists?
Madanthony was talking about religious, and atheism isn't one.

Don't give me nightmares! :(
Do you really think every Mormon believes all that stuff literally?
It's in their book, isn't it?
Do you believe everything in your religion is literally true?
Some do. Like that part in Leviticus that says that a man laying with a man as he would a woman is an abomination. Try telling them not to take it as literally true.
terryoh 02-19-07, 11:04 PM I very much disapprove of a Mormon President. Mormonism/Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is a cult. It's like asking Satan himself to assume the Presidency. I'm 100% against it.
