Iran has the money that Russia wants. Russia doesn't have to buy from Iran to make them an important trading partner, but Russia can sell to them.

Russia, and others, are pumping Iran full of arms. Russia doesn't neccessarily need the oil of Iran, but other countries do, so Russia has no problem just accepting good ol' fashioned currency, nor do they mind arming a country that is going to soon be fighting the #1 superpower in the world, the U.S.

The weaker the U.S. gets, the stronger everyone else under the U.S. becomes. Who doesn't want to be top dog? Russia can't be #1 when someone else is, and when you're not numero uno, waging war against them is just going to make you even weaker and push you further down the list, so whatever weakens that top dog, the U.S., the better for those that crave power that yet aren't on top. I mean, hey, how much better can it get? Your opponent weakens themselves on their own without you having to lift a finger; perfect!

China, and hell, the EU as well, are just sitting back and laughing as the U.S. overexpands and winds up spreading so thin that they can't keep up while other's build up ready for that moment to take the U.S.' place as the #1 superpower: China, Russia, EU, India, Pakistan, Brazil, you name it. The U.S. has been given plenty enough rope to hang itself. All everyone else has to do is sit back and watch.

There's plenty of countries in line to pick up the reigns.
