I'd be really annoyed if someone tried to tell me I couldn't date people from anywhere I wanted, coz there are so many groovy girls from so many different places.
If you don't live in the south you are okay. There is an extra baggage you have to deal with. That's all. You and your mate have to determine if your relationship is worth the trouble. The only totally accepted interracial combination in US is white male/ Asian female. Any other combination have to deal with problems. I have never dated my own race before. My last gf was hispanic. Before that I dated a girl from India for 2 years. That was probably my best relationship.
You can date anyone you want regardless of their or your color. Only possible downside (hopefully it wouldn't get any worse than this) is you might get criticized by idiots.
What do you mean by Indian? Native American? Right here up north full blooded Native Americans are extinct. Most people who claims to be Indians now look white.

I remember hearing from someone that the majority of them prefer being called Indians, because "Native American" is such a politically correct term, and because they weren't "American" before Europeans arrived here. Personally, i refer to those who live in India as Asian-Indians.
