'Insulting to Jews': Leading German Rabbi Condemns Pope's Good Friday Prayer
Jewish groups around the world have condemned Pope Benedict XVI's new version of a Catholic Good Friday prayer. SPIEGEL ONLINE talks to prominent German rabbi Walter Homolka about why the prayer is insulting to Jews and discusses alleged anti-Semitic tendencies within the Catholic Church.

So, what is going on? There is rumbling that this Pope is ready for a Christian Crusade against Jews and Muslims.....and my psychic says that the last Pope had white aura while this one has yellow aura meaning a sneaky and deceitful person...that seems to match his actions....

    Don't shoot the messanger....

I'm not surprised in the least. This is the guy who said he thought it was fair to put Galileo on trial. I saw through the Catholic Church some sixty years ago and I have never looked back.

I wonder why Jews can't simply laugh at the moron instead of getting angry.

The Jews feel "Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty". It is their mantra and I would do the same. The Jews really do not have any friends unless they attach themselves to Hindu India. That is the closest thing they can come to a religion analog.

If the Pope revives the Catholic supremacy - he would be like the opposite of Muslim extremist. Since a lot of people buy that idea...he has a lot of company. Look at Hitler, how he manipulated the German people. Just one little man.

Never underestimate the power of the position. He could be the one to start a real holy war....

kmguru, this pope is MUCH more conservitive than John paul. Its a pitty because there was a real chance that the church could have actually saved lives if they had voted for a pope who was more liberal and had alowed contriceptives. I know most catholic ignore the popes edicts they dont agree with in first world countries (i was brought up in a catholic family and trust me no one bitches about the pope like a catholic) but in 3rd world countries they take the edicts more seriously.

Then there is the fact that he wants to go back to prevatican 2 which should send shivers down EVERYONES spines (not just the catholics) because of the harm he could do if he does.

Im not sure anyone would really be secretly unhappy if this pope died young

The Catholic Church is very conservative and slow to act, but they seem to be trying. The new prayer doesn't seem offensive at all, and it's much improved from the old one. They only wish Jews would accept Christ, I see nothing wrong with wishing that. Of course a Rabbi would be offended by any suggestion that Jesus was anything more than just some guy you know? That's their religion.

With what? The Vatican guards? Pure hype.

Unlike Mormons (I am sure they are in Australia) and Muslims, Christians can get away criticizing their Priests, Popes etc. So, why they do not do this, I am not sure.

As to third world taking seriously, that is because browns and blacks think The White Pope is living God....so much for education....

May be the smart Catholics are waiting for this pope to die....but it will be a long time.....so better do what your heart tells you....what Jesus would do rather than what Pope would do....

Spidergoat, if the Pope called forth a Crusade, who do you think? There would be millions of men gathered up for that; hell, if I were a Christian, I'd go forth as part of my duty.

Is not that what Muslims want? The third Book (Quran) wants to absorb the first two books people. The 2nd Book people want to absorb the first book people....and here Mormons who are claiming to be the 4th book people want to absorb the first three.

No body cares about Hindus, Buddhists, and all the other Eastern folks...

This may go on for another thousand years or when aliens show up...

Is not life interesting...human life that is....

I can understand that, Jesus is much cooler than Moses or the god of the old testament,
so they feel pity for the poor jews that haven't experienced the awesomness of Christ.

I think the problem is that people have religion.
Now, keep in mind, there are three possible things, one of which is most beneficial:

    1)religion
    2)faith
    3) neither

I myself have Faith, therefore I do believe in God sometimes, at other times I am agnostic, but I follow no specific teaching, rather I follow every teaching or no teaching, I simply have faith.

At the stage of religion, however, is when you see violence.

Therefore, Jews, Muslims, and Christians are not seperated by faith: they believe in the same God, and alot of the same events and Prophets (Abraham, Moses, and for Christians and Muslims, Christ, and for Muslims, Muhummad). They are seperated by religion.

Firstly, you need to look at this with understanding that Christians (including Catholics) assume that no one will go to heaven, unless they accept Jesus Christ or recognise him as their savior.

Secondly, be thankful it was changed because the original virtually referred to Jews as 'faithless' or heathens.

Everyone was in Hitler Jugend, just as every child in USSR was a pioneer, however that doesn't mean that everyone was a communist.
