View Full Version : Install Windows95/98/ME/2000/XP on the same HDD?
Seeker01 10-12-02, 02:14 AM Currently I install WindowsME on primary partition. And Windows 2000 on secondary partition.
How can I install Windows95 and 98 on the same HDD? So that when I boot up,
I can choose either 95,98,ME,2000 or XP ?
sjmarsha 10-12-02, 02:31 AM As it is not my machine it would be difficult to say...
But, Why would you want to do that?
Seeker01 10-12-02, 02:45 AM i would like to have more options, run different software.
Get Partition Magic, and read its help files for instructions. Do a Googe search on "fosi programz" and you'll probably find it. On the page that you find, it's right down near the bottom, version 8.
make 4 partitions when you make the 1st install, and install every os on another partition. The bootmanager will sort the boot out :)
though i am wondering why the hell you want ME
Voodoo Child 10-13-02, 10:32 PM I used XOSL
http://www.xosl.org/
and
Ranish Partition Manager
www.ranish.com/part/
http://www.castlesoft.co.nz/SpotLight/Spotlight003.htm walks you through it.
That is the el cheapo option.
Seeker01 10-13-02, 11:56 PM Bachus, I think we can only install either win95/98/ME on the primary partition. You can only choose one of them. Win NT/2000/XP can be installed on logical or extended partition.
Voodoo Child 10-14-02, 03:04 AM Create more primaries for 98 and 95. RPM and Partition Magic both do non-destructive partitions.
Voodoo Child 10-14-02, 03:12 AM What do you use 95 for?
Seeker01 10-14-02, 03:18 AM make 2 primary partitions ? sure? I never tried! I thought we can only have single primary partition ?
Seeker01 10-14-02, 03:20 AM something wrong.
Voodoo Child 10-14-02, 03:26 AM You can have four primary partitions. And 30ish with extended partitions.
edit to add: though it depends on what you are running, number of hard disks, perhaps.
Seeker01 10-14-02, 03:41 AM sure?
let me try it, if OK, i will install Win95/98/2000/XP on the same HDD.
hah! GREAT!
Voodoo Child 10-14-02, 03:43 AM Back up. If you are anything like me, you'ill screw it up the first 10 times. What are you using to partition it/ as boot manager
Seeker01 10-14-02, 07:21 AM i tried on my old HDD of 2GB space, use partition magic 7.0,
but , strange, can partition it?
the HDD is intact, remains as 1 disk of 2GB.
i dare not try on my 40GB HDD.

Voodoo Child 10-14-02, 05:36 PM Didn't work? Possibly you don't have a cracked version of partition magic.

I can't help you much beyond that, I have never used partition magic.
Seeker01 10-14-02, 11:17 PM I had it, but it doesnot work! Donno why?
Voodoo Child 10-14-02, 11:19 PM try RPM then
Voodoo Child 10-14-02, 11:20 PM sure you successfully applied the crack(right version, language version)?
Seeker01 10-14-02, 11:28 PM i apply it, but it does not work on my 2GB HDD.
