Environmentalists in Kenya are worried that an insecticide is being used by farmers to kill lions and other predators.

Carbofuran is a very powerful and toxic insecticide.

Spread in the soil, it destroys bugs in the ground and is taken up by plants and kills insects which feed on the sap or foliage.

It is so powerful and toxic that it has been banned in Europe.

In the United States it cannot be used in granular form, and the US Environmental Protection Agency is seeking a total ban.

But in Kenya, carbofuran can be bought across the counter without restriction.

According to world-famous naturalist Dr Richard Leakey, it is being bought not by farmers wanting to control bugs and insects, but mainly by herdsmen who use it to kill lions, leopards and other predators.

It will kill lions even if it is only applied to kill bugs. All chemical insecticides should be banned everywhere immediately.

Only difference is that it will come quicker.
Look at that picture, it will be like that everywhere eventually.

Yes, with no pesticides it will come quickly, millions dying from starvation, crop failures on a global scale, and no were with the crops to send for relief.

There is already enough food in the world, about 4.5 pounds per person. The only thing responsible for hunger is the greed of the few and the exploitation of the many. Chemical pesticides only benefit corporations who stand to make money out of it. Places where there are no safeguards in place become good dumping grounds.

    Yes. Thank you SAM.
Chemical pesticides accumulate in predators, eventually making them sick or even killing them off.
Surprisingly large amounts of pesticides have been found in humans as well.

You do realize that these photos do not back up your argument. They merely point out the problem, not the cause.

The US is directly responsible, through subsidized exports and political muscling of local control over agricultural markets, for some of the starvation in Africa.

I find it funny that the U.S. gives away more food to the world than the rest of the world combined and we are the ones at fault.

The U.S. Government, and citizens give more aid to the world than the rest of the world combined and we are called heartless.

In SAM's India, they have kids starving in the streets, and she blames the U.S.

Yes SAM, when are you going to get your hands dirty, instead of your mouth.

Heh, CARE is refusing food aid from US federal funds. Take it up with them.

No, it is you who are deluded, I was raised on a farm, most of my relation are farmers, and with out insecticides, there would not be enough food to feed our own people, let alone those we feed around the world.

Hence: millions dying from starvation, crop failures on a global scale, and no were with the excess crops to send for relief.
