If I post something and a week later someone reads it and is offended, and reports it, do I get an infraction? A month later? How long after a post can a person receive an infraction for it?
my guess is...as long as the post is there and it is indeed found by someone offensive to cause that individual to inflict an infraction upon you...than really until the post is gone forever into nothingness from which all came from. The dust of a minute storm, settles for years
I am saying as long as post is there...seconds...days...weeks...months...years shall pass...and you can still get an infraction
Orleander...have you got something to hide? Are you ashamed of something? I am here for you...just tell me. Don't be afraid.
so if everyone is cool with a post, but 3 mths later a newbie arrives, reads it, and complains, that poster gets an infraction?
only if the God/Goddesses (moderators) approve of this and actually issue the infraction upon you like casting a spell upon you, only than will you actually get an infraction.
Yes, that's correct. As long as the post exists, anyone - old or new - that happens to come across it might become annoyed/insulted/whatever and report it. But as Draqon said, the moderator(s) in charge of the forum where the post resides decides if that report warrants an infraction being issued.
I don't think anyone gives infractions because someone is offended. But, I don't know... I've been out of the loop for a while.
infractions are given only when the poster has broken the rules. although often it takes until someone is offended and reports it that we find it, we arent going to dish out infractions just because you dont like what is being said.
What's the longest period any post has gone before receiving an infraction? To the other, there is no statute of limitations, but rather a consideration of the merits of the complaint. After all, if a new member is offended by something but has it out of context, that's not really going to help our opinion of the new member. If, on the other hand, the moderators have missed something, and it really is that severe, odds are we can find a more contemporary justification for issuing an infraction. As such, the original, unnoticed offense will mostly be an indicator of what to look for. Context and history: these two words represent apparently difficult concepts for a good many of our posters. Your moderators are obliged to pay attention to these factors, though. It's one of the reasons some people feel like others can get away with more. A member's history and the context of the alleged offense are very important considerations. As time passes, it is less and less likely that an infraction will be issued against any particular post. While there is no specific limitation that I'm aware of, it's already a pain in the ass to issue infractions, so we'd probably try to find some other way around it. Probably simply edit the post. If it's old enough, not even the original poster will notice. And I don't believe we're actually obliged to say anything about it.
