View Full Version : In need of old, yet good, games
Only me!
I've recently aquired a new laptop. Actually, when I say new I mean old. Really old.
It's only a 150mHz, 32mb of RAM, Win98 jobbie but it does play DooM quite well.
So, I'm here today to ask if anyone knows of anywhere where I can find any old games which would be able to play (available for free and to download). Any link will be helpful. Except ones where I can find new laptops! Or that one with that stoneage PC! I'm looking at you Avatar!
Thanks
Dreamwalker 04-27-04, 05:22 AM Try it here (http://www.alex-soft.net/), they got many old games.
This site (http://www.gamehippo.com/) also has many free games.
But this (http://www.free-games.to/) is my favorite site. You get games like GTA or Wolfenstein 3d and Doom 95 here.
Stryder 04-27-04, 05:36 AM Another is: http://www.the-underdogs.org/ (You should be able to even get away with some DOS games) and you might even be able to run STARCRAFT :D
Thanks guys. Completly forgot about the original GTA. Wolfenstein doesn't like playing on the laptop for some reason.
Stryder, I love that site so much (went there a year or so ago), so thanks for the remind.
Alpha Centauri, SimCity, Civilization 2.
There are also a huge number of high quality dos or text based games. Nethack for example.
I feel insulted about the mere mention of 'text based games'. Do I hear Zork making a come back?
*You hear footsteps in the distance*
*You opened a door*
I have Alpha Centauri somewhere...how about Age of Empires? Galactic Battlegrounds worked on it, albeit it was so slow.
Voodoo Child 04-28-04, 05:33 AM Civ II can be easily obtained of Kazaa. If you dl the mame emulator you can play old arcade games.
Get G-Darius, Thor.
If you don't then i'll personally stick my knife where the sun don't shine. The buttock that is....(only in Joint ops)
"Civ II can be easily obtained of Kazaa."
I don't think I'll like it. Too much playing CivIII will prolly make me disgusted with CivII.
" If you dl the mame emulator you can play old arcade games."
I have the ZSnes emulator and I must say, it struggles even with that.
I just downloaded my old favourite game, Hi-Octane. Oh I loved that game so much!
SOL - You're on!
I like Indiana Jones and Fate of Atlantis. I never finished the game but I just recenetly installed it on my 3.06 GHz Win XP 512 meg RAM laptop. lol. I also put Doom and Doom II on it. I actually really want to put Duke Nukem 3D on it because it was the first first person shooter game I played that used the mouse for aim. Doom II didn't use it, but doom and doom II were my first FPSs. Duke Nukem 3D is the reason why I play games inverted now... I am part of the small group of people in the world that play that way.
I like Indiana Jones and Fate of Atlantis.
I loved that game, I must have finished it at least 10 times. There are three distinct ways to play through it and a few different endings depending on how you go about doing stuff down in Atlantis.
I was a sucker for adventure games back in the day, I think I've finished 95% of all Sierra and LucasArts adventure games that have been published.

Captain_Crunch 04-28-04, 10:41 AM GTA might not run on a flat screen, I can remmember trying it on my PC flat screen and it wouldnt work. Also, it was designed for 95 so there may be compatibility issues but I dont think 95 and 98 are too different.
