Four top doctors arrested over illegal human experimentation (http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/772409.html)

Four senior doctors at Kaplan Hospital in Rehovot and Hartzfeld Geriatric Hospital in Gedera suspected of illegally experimenting on humans were arrested Monday.

Rehovot and Gedera are in Israel.

The national fraud squad has opened an investigation into the affair. The four are suspected of abuse, aggravated assault, causing death through negligence, fraud, forgery, breach of statutory duty, and disruption of legal proceedings.

In May 2005, the State Comptroller's Office slammed the hospitals over the illegal experimentation in a report.

According to a report issued by the investigations department of the Health Ministry and exposed by Haaretz, the hospitals in Gedera and Rehovot conducted illegal and unethical testing on thousands of elderly patients for years.

I want people to realize that they did THOUSANDS of unethical and illegal testings on elderly patients. THOUSANDS!

During one of the incidents described, twelve patients died either during the experiments or shortly after they took place, but these incidents were not reported to the Health Ministry or investigated, as is required by law.

The ministry's investigation revealed that some of the patients were included in the experiments without providing their consent, while some of them suffered from severe mental damage, which prevented them from being legally capable of providing consent.

According to the report, some of the tests did not even yield any medically or scientifically beneficial results. Furthermore, some of the experiments were conducted despite top doctors' warnings that they were illegal or unethical.

According to the report, some doctors received promotions, both in their professional and academic careers, on the basis of the illegal tests. In some cases, the tests were used as the basis for research studies published in local and international medical journals.

Need I remind people of illegal human medical experiments done on people during WW2 by Nazis? By the North Koreans on American POWs after the Korean War?

This is just sick and horrible.

Oh, geez, I suppose you don't like people killing each other in wars either, right? ..LOL! ..or you don't like auto accidents? ...drunk driver killers?

What else don't you like that's happening in the world? Maybe the Darfur massacres where thousands are killed almost daily? Or central Africa, where killing people has become the national sport?

What?

Oh, geez, I suppose you don't like people killing each other in wars either, right?

You're comparing experimenting illegally on disabled/elderly people with military conflict?

I'm not even going to ask you what your opinion on the Holocaust is. I'm afraid of what you might say.

you don't like auto accidents?

LOL, now you're comparing INTENTIONAL illegal experimentation on disabled/elderly people with auto ACCIDENTS?

Hmmm...does Sciforum have a minimum IQ requirement? If not, it should.

...drunk driver killers?

And you take it one step further by comparing SOBER illegal experimentation on disabled/elderly people with drivers UNDER THE INFLUENCE?

*clap clap* Good job.

What else don't you like that's happening in the world? Maybe the Darfur massacres where thousands are killed almost daily?

Of course I don't like that. Don't tell me you like that...?

Or central Africa, where killing people has become the national sport?

You're absolutely right. I don't like that either.

He's saying grow up. The doctors in question will get punished. Nothing you can do about it now but stir up hate. You also have to remember until they are convicted you should assume they are innoccent or it is a mistake.

Of course here's a thought for you what if thises people had wanted to be experimented on? What if it was only illegal becuase the government said so? I mean, come one. If you were in constant pain, equivalnet to giving birth to ababy hippo for the rest of your life, and a doctor came to you and said he has something unproven that might hel, but it all might kill you, what do you say?

The doctors will get punished, but I wouldn't get too worried about it because most, if not all great medical breakthroughs have risend from torture, pain, and un-ethical practices. The U.S. has done so just as the other nations you listed have. It is just a question of when it is convenient to look the other way and when it is not. We often deal with these things the way a person deals with personal issues which is that time heals all pains. As a bad thing passes farther and farther back in time we become more comfortable with it and decide to critisize the people of the past but still use the benefits of their work

It doesn't go into any detail about what they were doing.

Prescribing an un-FDA-approved drug would count as illegal human experimentation. As the story lacks any gorey details, I doubt anything actually that bad happened. If there was evidence they were carving out geriatric brains and repaling them with monkey brains, your yellow press would be cumming all over themselves to report every sensationalist detail.

BUT THOSE FUCKIN NAZI SCUM GEEZE!!!
