It sounded wrong to me. You know what though? It is a valid idea. I tried it on otherwise incorrigible people. When you hurt them the way they hurt others, it seems to wake them up. If all you do is talk nice to them, they never learn why it is that people avoid them. They need to feel the hate and malice they exude so that they can learn why people shun them.

The nice way is better and healthier. I know people that would let someone "drown" in their malice and hate before they would themselves demonstrate malice and hate to another in order to teach them. yeah i can understand this perfectly, and your right it can work very well, giving people a taste of there own medicine works, but it can also lead to more negative actions,

I agree that there's more to life and living than science can readily explain, but I also admit that science does a bang up job in my life. I meditate and listen to music that suits my mood. I seek smells and aesthetic things in my home that give me peace and tranquility. But I also take ibuprofin when an old knee injury swells after a long run and get my flu shot each year. I find a happy medium between modern science/medicine/technology and the aesthetic and comforting aspects of tradition. I smug my house with sage and sweet grass from time to time, but mostly because I like the smell more than because I think it will actually keep 'spirits' away (it also gets rid of the cigar odor in my car).

I think you have some good points about materialism, but I also think you go way overboard in your rants. After all, this is a "Science" forum, and it is expected that most, if not all, discussions would be "scientifically" slanted.

I pointed out that I do something via paying taxes, and charitable donations to alleviate their suffering. I don't volunteer as much as I have previously, but I have my own responsibilities, and supplant effort with some cash now.

Ember-to-Inferno, the passion and concern in your post is very evident, and I applaud you for that. However, as the Red Rodent has observed above, this is a Science forum. To the best of my knowledge (and at one time I did a great deal of reading and dabbling in such matters) there is absolutely no scientific evidence for the existence of a third eye.

If this were a New Age forum, then that would hardly matter. It is, however, as science forum. That means we should expect that scientific methodology is applied within the posts. If something as bizarre and unknown to science as a third eye is to be discussed, then at the very least some evidence for its existence should be presented at the outset. This was entirely lacking.

Perhaps muslim intended the third eye to be used in a metaphorical sense. (I think Duendy, in one of her few lucid moments suggested as much.) In that case , he should have either stated his intent was metaphorical, or posted this under philosophy, not parapsychology.

In any event, the result is a poorly presented, unscientific thesis, about a probably non-existent object/facility. It is hardly surprising that this is jumped on by those who wish to raise the standard of the board, and at the same time attracts the rabble of nutters and extremists who circulate around anything of this sort, crying 'skeptic, skeptic', when ever a valid point of objectivity is raised.

That said, many of us (doubtless including myself) might occasionally be more tolerant of such views. The difficulty is that we have seen so many crazy theories or spiritual perspectives unsuitably clothed in the raiment of science that we tend to shoot first and ask questions later.

6. I try to visit the Tate or the National Gallery each time I am in London. I still haven't finished working my way around the Louvre. The Prado, in Madrid and the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam are two of my favourites overseas, though the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston is impressive for such a materialist state - I'm sure they just chose the exhibits based on price Duendy.

If, Duendy, you count a materialist as someone who does not take mind altering drugs, then your accusation is largely well founded. Apart from a couple of beers, a glass of wine or an Irish coffee, and a regular dosage of beta blockers I am wholly free of these. If it is somewhere en route between Western Europe and Texas, I can mange it fairly easily. If it is elswhere - California, Arizona, Dakota etc it becomes more difficult.
