Icon Problems - Please Help!!!

Hey guys,

1st time poster – and it’s a really small problem that’s been annoying me for some time with my desktop…
I’m running XP home edition, and for some reason I can’t get the big block around the text on my icons back to the original simple outline sourrounding the text.
Also there doesn’t seem to be any font smoothing around fonts – see enclosed pic! – I’ve been all over my desktop display settings and can’t find the feature to make my desktop icons smooth and clean looking!

I’ve a gainward GeForce 4200 ti –

I dont know much about xp, but right click on the desktop and goto the appearance tab and you can change the color of that box around the text, though i dont know if you can make it altogether disappear, but if the box is black on black all you will see is the text.

there's a re gedit for transparancy in icons i seen just gotta find where i seen it

right click desktop>appearance>advanced>items>icon

for some reson i can't change the color, it stays transparent

 

Cheers for the help guys - Its not that I want to change the colour or size or font of the icons on my desktop, Its just I wanna lose the clunky block around the text and just have the text iself -

Also, As you can see on the image above, The icon image itself doesn't have a clean outline, It's filling out with the black -
