Hey this is supposed to be fun!!!!

I'd like to generate an IQ profile for Sci-Forums members.

The poll responses will be kept totally anonymous

I trust you will be honest.

Here's a good IQ test thread, with several different on-line assessment tests. Some of them can be completed in 20 minutes or so:

http://onyx-ii.com/starr-rhapsody/journey/personality.html

There's other good stuff in there too like Myers-Briggs personality inventory.

BTW I took the european IQ test and I weighed in at 141. Here in the USA I'm only 134.

I'll group with the europeans since they're dumber. :p

I know, I just made it up. See how creative I am.

Well actually I got the idea from a movie.

Does their combined IQ exceed 100?

Here is your score

Your score is 153

View the correct

Second Edit:
I scored 135 on the EQ test from Queendom. Very nice test, I recommend it. With these tests I often feel like I'm answering what I think they want me to answer. It is hard to tell if I am giving the "right" answer, or my true reaction. This probably skews my EQ up a bit.

I didn't understand how to figure out that whole section where you had to fill in 2 shapes, and I'm disappointed with my score.
Edit: I took the European test. Can anyone explain how to solve the part with the 2 blank shapes, or do you just have to recognise some kind of pattern naturally?

RSPM (Ravens): above 2 deviations (Mensa no longer gives out scores... only pass or fail.)
Wonderlic: above 2 deviations (Mensa no longer gives out scores... only pass or fail.)
SCAT: above 2 deviations (Mensa no longer gives out scores... only pass or fail.)

European test: 155 (most likely sd24, meaning ~134 sd15)

I'd say 130-139, with 135 being the average result.

I hate you more than I hate the average human. You make a thread about IQ, and you don't even know about it.

1. An IQ test varies wildly upon what the maximum score is. In my case, the scale topped at 200.
2. Many people will take an online IQ test, and their answer will be the result of the garbage of online tests.
3. Many people lie, even if you ask them not to.

If you are "only" 134, you must be "as much as 85".
If you are sarcastic... I don't know.
Only 1% of the population scores as much or above 135 on a 200 topping IQ scale.
On this scale, 135 is 10 points away from the genius range.

AT LEAST KNOW WHAT YOU ARE SAYING...
when you make a thread about something.

There should be a standard deviation on the poll above: I'm willing to bet that all 4 who voted for 160 and above are either full of shit or base their score on an sd of 24. This isn't going to get very far, as the survey is flawed from the start...

It may be that only the certifiably gifted have answered the poll, but I'd have to say it's highly likely that most of the respondents are actually within the 100-130 range. Oh bugger, I'm getting way too involved in this. :P

I think the reality is worse than that for Europeans. The way these tests are normalized is to have many people take them, and see what percentage gets a certain number of questions correct.

The reason you score higher on a European test is most likely because that score is normalized with a less-intelligent test-taking population! :D

I'm assuming a European population was used to produce the base line IQ for a European IQ test. ;)

It is possible they indeed have a higher average "100" IQ, but a much smaller standard deviation that skews the scores upward for "us" intelligent folks. At some point the two bell curves intersect, let's say at "120" kind of like degrees C and degrees F intersect at one point like -40C = -40F.

Perhaps Dan Edmond can do the ANOVA (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anova) for us to put it all in perspective. He says he's the expert on bell curves (gaussian distributions).

I'm assuming a European population was used to produce the base line IQ for a European IQ test. ;)

I'm assuming the exact same thing, which is my point.

Imagine that you set up an IQ test and normalized it with 5-year-olds. The average score is given a 100. If you score 115, that puts you one SD above the mean. 130 would be two SD above the mean.

Now, an adult takes the same test and scores 150. That score is meaningless and artificially inflated. Why? Because adults are smarter than 5-year-olds. (on average :))

Which means, if Americans are constantly scoring in a higher SD on a test normalized by Europeans, then the bell curve of Americans is shifted to the right when overlapped on the same scale with a bell curve of Europeans.

In order to verify this, you would need some Europeans to take an IQ test normalized with Americans, and verify that they are scoring 10 points lower.

notice how the USA is always BELOW the average.

The most remarkable reason for Finland’s success in the PISA Survey is educational equality: the entire school system is based on it. Equality means that every citizen has an equal possibility to get education regardless of age, domicile, economic status/ wealth, gender or mother tongue.

Now imagine you would apply that very same principle to the US?

Instead of bragging about a score that test potential you might be able to brag about a score that actually measures how well you are educated.

I.Q. Test.... (fun puzzle if you follow the steps)

a) Think of a number between 2 and 9

b) Multiply that number by 9

c) add the two digits in that number for a sum.

d) subtract 5 from your new number.

e) take the number and get the corresponding letter in the alphabet.
i.e. a=1 b=2 c=3 , etc.

f) Pick a Europian / Asian / or African country beginning with that letter.

g) Take the second letter from that countries name and think of a mammal that starts with that letter.

H) Then think of the colour of that Animal.

I) Now think about what shade of grey the big creature with a trunk is.

How did I know that last line. Hmmm

kwhilborn
04-12-07, 07:49 PM
O.K. Another one.

Quickly do this (for best results)

a) quickly pick a number between 5 and 12.

b) quickly look down at your answer.

c) Your answer was the square of 49. Hmmm, usually anyways.
