    That's the second most exciting news I have heard since the artificial bacteria. They claim that this computers will actually "learn". Machines would tell us how human mind works, just as telescopes open new frontiers in terms of understanding universe.

    After further reading and some second thought, this is not an "A Major" achievement I'm afraid. Don't get me wrong, it is still a great news, but only in terms of energy consumption.

    However, when it comes to the question of "how does it work?", this hardware is not a great leap towards understanding and replicating natural brain, let alone human consciousness. By the way, we don't need to replicate the natural brain in order to come up with a novel computational solution; we didn't use any natural example while we were creating our current technology. Still, with or without nature, we have a software problem.

    The architecture of the hardware -connection of circuits; position of processor and memory- reflects our current way of software understanding. This new computer chips might have a different hardware architecture; but do they have different software language too? As far as I gather, not yet. They still programme these computers using conventional methods. Difference in hardware may allow less energy consumption; but it cannot be accepted as the first step for cognitive computing; not yet.

    I believe we need to sort out software problem alongside hardware if we accept cognitive computing as a serious possibility. These are some of my thoughts:

    Command language of thinking and the source of this quest: Is software physical?
