I think the search function for posts is broken

    I have searches for key words I know exist posted by a certain person and it says their is no matches.

    The way the forum software works is it tends to build a Search list, or at least it can do. (It's really dependent on the setting). The Search lists is only refreshed once every 24 hours or so (Around 10:10 UTC each day), so if you are searching something thats relatively new, it won't show in the search results.

    There is then a search algorithm in play which can be altered for significance. If one or other figure is altered too much it's possible that it won't class things as relevant even if they are a match.

    is this why i am generally unable to access the forums between 5 and 6 AM?

    It would seem so. Although saying that I'm posting at 10:13 so it might well be more 10:30. You can just imagine the workload of the forum server, rebuilding visitation numbers, indexes as well as being spidered (some spiders can eat all the bandwidth in one go)
