I am cooking dinner (w/guest) I have marinaded 1 1/2 inch ribeye steaks. Everyone wants them Medium rare. They are ready to go. I plan to broil them in the oven. How long should I cook them on each side. I don't want to mess this up. Help right away if possible dinner is set for 7:30 and it is now 6:50 my time.
http://www.bbqreport.com/archives/barbecue/2005/07/24/how-to-tell-when-a-steak-is-done/ I seem to recall a way of telling how a steak is done by the way the blood is congealing out of it, but I can't find any references and don't remember the details... Temperature is the best bet, but you probably don't have a thermometer. You'll have to resort to touch and that's sort of trial and error to get the actual feel of a medium rare steak down. Either that or cutting it open... which dries out the steak.
No I am not a man and I have no barbeque. I'm running out of time here. Seriously just someone who knows anything about cooking tell me something. Oh yeah, I am not a cook. I just need to know how many minutes to get them medium rare (just a little bloody inside) without over cooking them.
Okay so I checked out the website (the one with the thumb and finger test) I guess I will take that advice since I have to cook like right now, but I wish I had times to go by. Anyway thanks. I'm off to the kitchen. Wish me luck
Just use one as a test. Open the oven every so often and cut a lump out of it to see how it is on the inside.
Squeeze the fleshy part of your hand, between your thumb and first finger. That's about medium rare. On a hot fire its about 5 minutes on a side or so. I'd say make your oven as hot as you can and hope for the best. The other option is to sear them in a pan, so they get a nice outside finish, then pop them in the oven for a few minutes. Next time buy a grill.

I'm always cooking for one, so I just pan-broil my T-bone. I know that makes me a Philistine but they come out just fine as far as I can tell. Broiling in an oven is a technique I have never mastered. Every oven is different. If your meat is an eighth of an inch further from the flame than it was the last time it will take five minutes longer to cook and be dried out. And forget about it if you have an electric oven, you might as well cook your steak in the microwave. Range-top grills are great.
For those of you who are actually interested. UPDATE: Dinner was a success. I ended up broiling them about 6 minutes on each side. All went well!!!!!!!!!!!! Now next week you can all help me with Veil. LOL
Yeah, that's what she means.. why is everyone so quick to point out spelling errors? does it make you feel superior?
I know. I hate that. By the way, did you mean to say, "Does it make you feel superior?" Just curious.
i've been up all night, but i can't find a difference from that and what i said :bugeye: unless you mean the capital letter Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! err.. unless you're joking .. then it's kinda funny Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
Yeah, I think that's what he was pointing out. Anyway, whoever said toss a salad instead of veal, you should go kill yourself, lol. Veal is one of the best meats out there, especially if you get veal parmesan!
